Graham urges Trump to reopen government -- but declare national emergency if border deal remains elus

Source: Washington Post

By Felicia Sonmez and Cat Zakrzewski January 13 at 12:03 PM

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday that President Trump should agree to reopen the government and continue trying to hammer out a deal with Democrats on funding his long-promised border wall — but that the president should declare a national emergency if no progress is made in three weeks.

In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Graham maintained that Trump is not going to give up on his demand for more than $5 billion in funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

But he argued that reopening the government and attempting to find a legislative solution, then declaring a national emergency if those talks don’t bear fruit, is the best way forward.

“I would urge him to open up the government for a short period of time, like three weeks, before he pulls the plug. See if we can get a deal. If we can’t at the end of three weeks, all bets are off. See if he can do it by himself through the emergency powers,” Graham said.

Are digging themselves a hole they will not escape from, and they are doing this to themselves. If they took anything for themselves or their campaigns from funneling it through others from russians and putin , they will end up in prison.

Isn't that around when Cohen is supposed to testify?

Our new House will have to clean things up, and they will.

Lindsey should sit back and observe adults (Chuck and Nancy).

But not having one for Mexico is a "national emergency". Republican racism is real.

Why wasn't it an emergency the first TWO YEARS of Trump's presidency, when the GOP was ahead in the House and Senate?

NO!

Open the fucking government for every Department that has nothing to do with "immigration" or "border security" for the rest of the FY and then if you want to do a CR for DHS to get more time for negotiation, then do that. DON'T keep holding innocent victims hostage who have no skin in that game.

Mrs. Betty Bowers
@BettyBowers
I have a hunch that Lindsey Graham “blows off report” that Trump is a compromised Russian agent because Russia has compromising pics of Lindsey blowing off more than reports.

Somebody has some dirt on this scumbag, and I'm guessing he is desperate with these emotional outbursts and acting like a total hostile, angry scorned-eunuch.

He has a long history of sudden reversals whenever his masters calls. I can't figure out how such lightwieghts as Graham and Cruz get so much air time.

The federal government does not run our national elections. The states do.

If Forrest Trump tries to stop federal elections even the reddest of red states will carry on with them.

I have often cursed our federal system, especially with what it did to the ACA.

I am thankful for it now.
