Mueller Draft Report Says Trump 'Helped Putin Destabilize the United States', Watergate Journalist Says

Legendary journalist Carl Bernstein has said that he’s been told that special counsel Robert Mueller’s report will show how President Donald Trump helped Russia “destabilize the United States.”

Bernstein, who is renowned for his coverage of the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of former President Richard Nixon, appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday to discuss two bombshell reports released this weekend, one from The New York Times and one from The Washington Post, which revealed new details about whether or not Trump and his aides have colluded with Russia.

The Post reported that Trump has gone to “extraordinary lengths” to conceal direct conversations he has had with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Times article revealed that the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into Trump after he fired former bureau director James Comey in 2017, suspecting the president could be working on behalf of Russia. Trump has angrily denied allegations that he worked with Russia and has regularly attacked the media for reporting on the investigation. But Bernstein slammed Trump’s dismissal of the probe.

“This is about the most serious counterintelligence people we have in the U.S. government saying, ‘Oh, my God, the president’s words and actions lead us to conclude that somehow he has become a witting, unwitting, or half-witting pawn, certainly in some regards, to Vladimir Putin,'” Bernstein explained during his appearance on Reliable Sources .

At some point the idea of execution should be considered. How much more grave a situation is there as Americans? This should WILL never happen again. We came real close to going over the edge. If for no other reason than deterrence, it shouldn't be taken off the table, sadly. Imagine the endless yers of "I didnt do it" and "fake news" on top of it? We didnt start this fight but we are capable of ending it. Treachery of the highest order.

Only once-removed from Blavatnik’s good buddy Oleg Deripaska? Who himself is only once-removed from dear ol’ Vladimir?

What’s that? Three degrees of separation between McConnell and Putin himself? And this story came out a year-and-a-half ago and got picked up by exactly nobody, and went exactly nowhere. I’m still kind of a news junkie and I try to pay attention, and I missed it, too.

Yah, you're right. This is a joke of "reporting" by newsweek.

Newsweek said that Bernstein (who arguably has a pretty good record....) that someone he talked to said that maybe there's something we're all hoping for in the Mueller report.

Take it with a entire dumptruck full of salt.

Nobody really knows what's in the report until we get the actual report.

So Bernstein is reliable about what someone told him, but depends on the source.

Mueller's team has been tight with no leaks up to now.

"Helping" Putin doesn't necessarily mean intentionally helping him or working with him. It could mean simply that what Trump did or did not do had the result of helping Putin. I think evidence so far shows that Trump was conspiring with Russians (the mtg in Trump Tower, hiring Manafort, secret meetings w/Putin, defending and praising Putin, etc.). But that's not what Bernstein said his source said.

For Watergate, they verified with other sources. This was something that one person told him. He didn't say he verified it, and how would he? Maybe it's true. Maybe not. Who would have seen the Mueller draft report? And then told Bernstein? Mueller runs a tight ship. But maybe it's true.

I didn't say anything about Fox. ???

In any case, the source didn't say that the "help" was intentional or just a byproduct of stupid actions or inaction. Or if it mattered if it was unintentional.

Interesting, though.

He knew Clinton could not be compromised and corrupted. Also, don’t forget that putin drummed up support for Obama in 2008 against mccain. Putin hated mccain with passion and thought obama being the first black president would help him to destabilize the country. He was funding both white supremacists and black radical movements. In 2012, putin turned against romney due to his vile anti-russia stance. In 2008, Obama was very much in support of good relationship with russia all the way through 2012. Then, of course, Magnitsky happened and obama became mortal enemy. Putin’s long game paid off big time, his skills in political technologies worldwide are insanely dangerous. He is reshaping Europe in real time.

As far as Putin "hating" one pol over another, I don't think the passion runs that deep in this man. He's a strategic operator. He uses those he can co-opt and tries to minimize those he knows he can't. And he goes about it using the medium in which they operate. He doesn't get emotionally or intellectually twisted when he's planning how he's going to get back at people who have opposed him. He's totally sang froid. Clinton and Obama were intelligent enough to figure that out and they paid attention to the information they were briefed on by the intelligence communities.

He headed departments (Environment, Housing, Health, Education, etc) with those that have expressed sentiments to undermine those departments.

He has undermined military leadership, the FBI, the DOJ.

He has undermined our media, and labeled all opposition as fake.

He has ripped up international accords and agreements, such as the Paris Accord, TPP, UNESCO, the Iran deal, without putting anything in its place.

He has undermined America's alliances through threats to Nato, and insults to world leaders, whilst sucking up to despots.

He has sought to divide Americans by using race and grievances.

He has put the economy on a course similar to his failed businesses. The completely unnecessary shutdown, unsustainable tax cuts, and tariffs, all serve to damage America.

America was the world leader before he took office, but he has successfully alienated America from the rest of the world and left us as a weakened laughing stock.

These are not the results of an idiot who just happened to do everything wrong to damage us, but the result of a carefully planned program of destruction. Trump isn't smart enough to achieve this on his own. His puppet master is.
