Trump: We'll serve McDonald's, Burger King to visiting Clemson football team

Source: The Hill

President Trump said Monday that the White House will serve food from fast food chains McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King, as well as pizza, to the national champion Clemson University Tigers during the football team's visit later in the day.

"I really mean it," Trump told reporters outside the White House. "It will be interesting. And I would think that’s their favorite food."

The president is scheduled to participate in a public event with the team at 6:30 p.m. in the East Room of the White House. He said their visit is dependent on the weather after the Washington, D.C., area received up to a foot of snow over the weekend.

Monday will mark the second time the Clemson University football team will visit Trump at the White House. The team also made the trip following its national championship victory in 2017.

You know, when I go someplace special, whether on my own dime or on invitation, I kind of look forward to being treated special. When I go to a wedding, for example, I'm king of expecting a nice meal and some really good cake. If I splurge on a restaurant, I expect linens and fine food. If my goal is to impress a partner, same thing.

If I'm invited to the White House, I would expect to be treated to the best that it offers. A nice spread, maybe some wine. Maybe some great craft beer. At least top notch coffee.

If I wanted McDonald's, Burger King, and pizza, I can do that on my own, and still have change.

This is not news, but he's fucking crazy.

And if there's a racial component - I know Clemson is not an HBCU, but I don't know the racial makeup of the team - then this is just SMH fucked up. And if that's the case, why not go all the way, offering fried chicken, collard greens and watermelon?

60% African-American, and I suspect for many it's notably higher.

Not proof, in and of itself, that this catering decision was racially-tinged (now, catering only from Church's Chicken ... as you suggest ... that'd be a bit obvious) ...

Truth is you tend to get pretty sick of fast food and pizza in college because you tend to eat at those kinda joints a lot ... cheap, easy, no cleanup, etc.

I DOUBT this is the meal they were hoping for, put it that way.

"Hey, great game kids! Let's go out for Pizza, I'm buying..."

These "kids" have been training to be professional level athletes for the last few years. At this level, the Universities have been ensuring that these kids have been eating quality food, fresh and minimally processed, high in protein, balanced for their particular body requirements every f'n day.
The training facilities in pretty much all the BCS campuses have actual chefs to make proper food that young people who may have grown up on Micky-D's will eat.

One of my spouse's 2nd cousins goes to USC on an athletic scholarship; the "cheeseburgers" he regularly eats are freshly ground beef (or grilled fish or chicken fillets) on a thin whole-grain bun baked at the facility, a choice between goat cheese or thin sliced deli cheeses, any number of mix of greens and fresh or grilled veggies (tomatos, avocados, onions, house pickle, zucchini), and mushrooms sautéed in the house vinigerette that also acts as the dressing. Fries or Onion rings are made fresh in batches. Their "pizza" is a fresh and hand-thrown whole grain crust with lots of fresh quality meats, cheeses and veggies and minimal sauce made in house, in an appropriate sized single serving of each. They also get all sorts of protein smoothies and minimally processed snacks to fill the time.

When he gets home on break, cousin does not eat out at the cheap places with the family and he will not eat drive-through, because he always feels sick afterwards. He only eats home cooked, or sticks with a salad if they were eating out.

College Athletes don't eat like a staving General Studies student does, nor do they "suffer" on bland Cafeteria food. They eat like a mid-level executive on a Pro-Athlete's diet. Serving them McDonalds, Burger King, and Pizza Hut? F-you. That's going to screw with their guts, and most of them know it.

We have decided you have no business doing meaningless photo opportunities while 800,000 government workers are at very real risk of losing their homes through no fault of their own.

And in case you're wondering, we don't eat what you're planning to serve.
