Trump touts proposed Bible literacy classes in state schools

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 01/28/19 08:58 AM EST

President Trump on Monday embraced a proposal from lawmakers in six states that would allow public schools to offer Bible literacy classes shortly after the subject was discussed on "Fox & Friends."

The tweet came roughly a half hour after North Dakota state Rep. Aaron McWilliams appeared on "Fox & Friends." McWilliams is co-sponsoring a measure in North Dakota to support Bible literacy classes.

Similar measures have been introduced in Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia and Florida.

USA Today reported that the proposals would require or encourage public schools to offer elective classes on the Bible, with a focus on its historical significance.

There are some videos of Signs Following church services on YouTube. They tend to use timber rattlers that are three to four feet long - big enough to kill anyone that pisses them off.

Strange thing is, if someone gets bit they just start praying real hard and don’t administer first aid They don’t call EMS for the obvious reason: all states where known Signs Following congregations are, except West Virginia and Georgia, have banned snake handling. If the fire department were called in, they’d lose all their snakes at the very minimum. And quite a few videos talk about how someone they loved died of snakebite, but they just keep right on going.

Mon Jan 28, 2019, 07:42 PM
Jan 2019

***Update***: The North Dakota bill at the center of this controversy died in the State Senate after a 42-5 vote against it.

Earlier today, North Dakota State Rep. Aaron McWilliams appeared on Fox & Friends to talk about his bill that would force public schools to offer Bible classes. His legislation, as we’ve discussed before, doesn’t distinguish between teaching the Bible as literature (which could be okay) and teaching it as fact (which would be illegal). His bill doesn’t lay out what needed to be taught, only that schools needed to teach it, and that it could replace a one-semester U.S. Government or economics class as a requirement for graduation.
The bill would almost certainly be challenged in court the moment it passed. So of course he was defended it on FOX News.
