'Empire' producers cut Smollett from season's last episodes

CHICAGO (AP) — The producers of the TV show “Empire” said Friday that Jussie Smollett’s character will be removed from the final two episodes of this season “to avoid further disruption on set” after Smollett was accused of faking a racist, anti-gay attack on himself in Chicago.

“While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of ‘Jamal’ from the final two episodes of the season,” ?Empire” executive producers Lee Daniels, Danny Strong, Brett Mahoney, Brian Grazer, Sanaa Hamri, Francie Calfo and Dennis Hammer said in a written statement.

“Empire” is filmed in Chicago.

Prosecutors charged Smollett late Wednesday with felony disorderly conduct — the charge that is used for filing a false police report. He turned himself in to police Thursday and was jailed until an afternoon court appearance.

One of the humorous comments that I read or heard about this whole thing was...the first clue should have been, "You mean there are MAGAs who watch Empire?" LOL.

It would be odd that Trumpers would watch that show, and know who Smollett is, when you think about it.

I had never heard of him before this. I've never seen that show. I would not have known his race, much less that he's gay. (I don't watch much major network tv.)

Anyway, I thought that was funny, because, it's sorta true. I can't see families of racists crowding around the tv set to watch Empire or Blackish.

They'll quietly release him from the show, when his legal troubles conclude, if it's found he did falsify the incident. BTW, I looked him up on Wikipedia, where it mentions a prior DUI charge, in which he gave false information to law enforcement at that time.
