Judiciary chairman to request documents from dozens close to White House

Source: The Hill

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said on Sunday that his panel will request documents from dozens of entities and individuals close to the White House as part of his panel’s investigation into “obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power.”

“Tomorrow, we will be issuing document requests to over 60 different people and individuals from the White House to the Department of Justice, Donald Trump, Jr., Allen Weisselberg, to begin the investigations to present the case to the American people about obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power,” Nadler said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Nadler said during the interview that he thinks President Trump obstructed justice. "It's very clear that the president obstructed justice," he said.

"It’s very clear – 1,100 times he referred to [special counsel Robert Mueller's] investigation as a witch hunt ... he tried to protect [former national security adviser Michael] Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired [former FBI director James] Comey in order to stop the Russian thing, as he told NBC News. ... He’s intimidated witnesses. In public."

House Judiciary chair: "It's very clear" Trump obstructed justice

House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), whose committee would be responsible for starting impeachment proceedings, told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday that "it's very clear" President Trump obstructed justice.

"1,100 times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a 'witch hunt.' He tried to protect Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to 'stop the Russia thing,' as he told NBC News. He's dangled pardons, he's intimidated witnesses in public."

— Nadler

The big picture: Nadler acknowledged that the committee is still a “long way” from impeachment and that it needs to be able to persuade the American people that impeachment is warranted — not just politically motivated. While it waits for special counsel Robert Mueller's report to be made public, Nadler said the committee will demand documents from more than 60 Trump associates, including Donald Trump Jr. and Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) announced Sunday that his committee would be issuing document request “to over 60 different people” on Monday in order to eventually “present the case to the American people about obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power.”

Nadler, who said later in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that “it’s very clear that the President obstructed justice,” said “I would imagine” the list of people who will receive a document request includes former White House chief of staff John Kelly and former White House Counsel Don McGahn.

“We will be releasing the list tomorrow of over 60 entities, people, et cetera,” he said, specifically naming Donald Trump Jr. and Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg.

The Wall Street Journal, citing an unnamed source “familiar with the list,” reported later on Sunday that it also included document requests for Eric Trump, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump’s longtime Trump Organization assistant Rhona Graff..................
