MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin Republicans asked an appeals court Friday to immediately reinstate GOP-backed laws limiting the powers of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul.
Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess issued an injunction Thursday blocking the laws, which GOP legislators quickly approved in December before Evers replaced Republican Gov. Scott Walker. On Friday, an attorney for the Republican lawmakers asked the 3rd District Court of Appeals for an immediate stay blocking Niess order and reinstating the statutes.
The court gave all the parties involved until 4 p.m. Monday to file briefs, ensuring no decision will come until at least then.
The Republicans attorney, Misha Tseytlin, told the appellate court in a filing Friday morning that Niess injunction was already causing confusion for military and overseas voters, noting a state Supreme Court election is only days away.

(12,600 posts)They could give a shit about the troops. Not "the military," which essentially is the military-industrial complex, but those people who put themselves in harm's way. The GOP will cut benefits, tap into pension funds, gut the VA, let Fat Donnie steal money for his ego wall which has been allocated to improve the troops' quality of life, all without complaint, but when they can say, "But what about the troops?" as an argument to do some illegal action, they'll jump on it in a heartbeat.
I've seen the same argument used to justify allowing snowmobiles into Denali National Park and allowing hunting deer on one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California. "But what about the troops?" Actually, the argument in both cases was, "What about the disabled troops?"
I hope the Court of Appeals and then the Supreme Court hands them their ass for the subterfuge they pulled after the election.
