Barbra Streisand is under fire for comments she made about two men accusing Michael Jackson of sexually assaulting them as children.
The legendary singer and actress said that Wade Robson and James Safechuck whose allegations against the late King of Pop resurfaced in the recent documentary Leaving Neverland" were thrilled to be there and that what allegedly happened to them didnt kill them"
Streisand, 76, made the strange comments to British newspaper The Times in a piece out Friday, in which she also said that Jacksons sexual needs were his sexual needs.
She says she absolutely believes the allegations of abuse by Robson and Safechuck, but puts more blame on their parents than The Gloved One.

(20,970 posts)Damn right!
MJ was acquitted by a jury of his peers.
If you look into this more you will see the lies being spread about a dead man that is not here to defend himself!
This whole thing sickens me.
Bunch of greedy parasites looking for more $$$ is what it is all about.
May the King of Pop RIP!
And why is this LBN?
The Velveteen Ocelot
(119,109 posts)Yes, he was acquitted in a criminal case, but in 1993, he was accused of sexually abusing the child of a family friend; the claim was investigated and the case was settled out of court for $25 million in 1994. You don't pony up that kind of money if you didn't do anything at all. The claimants still had the burden of proof and it would seem that Jackson's lawyers figured they'd be able to meet that burden if there was a trial.
What Streisand said was outrageous.

(9,696 posts)As adults, they understand why as a child they defended him. Had they not testified, who knows if he would have been found guilty.

(26,782 posts)for potentially hundreds of millions in lost sales you might very well be tempted to pony up a settlement especially if your advisers tell you that it would be cheaper.

Just like R Kelley, too many parents fell victim to a predator thinking their kids would become famous or they would get paid.

It is all about money!
Do your research! Robson sued for $1.5 billion in 2013. The case was dismissed.
Now he is looking for money again.
That is the reality of this!
Again, WHY is this LBN?
It is gossip and nothing more!

There is absolutely nothing that justifies that. Only a pervert would insist that aa child spent the night with him and not with their families. The whole thing was sick and perverted and I can't believe anyone buys it was innocent.

As a guest on The View chatshow on US television, she said: "I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and when they let him out he was like, 'You know what, this guy's going to give me a hundred years in jail. I'm not staying.' So that's why he left."
Later in the programme she added: "We're a different kind of society, we see things differently ... would I want my 14-year-old having sex with somebody? Not necessarily, no."

(20,970 posts)It is sadly not over yet 10 years after MJ's death.
One-fourth of it has been discarded.
Seems no one cares how this constant badgering may be affecting his children! None of them were affected by any untoward behavior by MJ. Don't you think if this was the case there would be a problem for them by now? The only problems they seem have is fighting off the cruel paparazzi and the tabloids.
As for Robson, he is in debt and has a history of lying.
Why the hell is this Late Breaking News when the person being accused again is DEAD?

(4,642 posts)Isn't one of the sons basically mute and never seen in public and the daughter has made multiple suicide attempts?
The whole point of the documentary (which I respectfully suggest you need to either watch or watch again) was that child sexual abuse is extremely confusing for the child who mixes up feeling of love and protectiveness with what it happening to them and that it can take them decades to recognise that it even is abuse. Both of the accusers said it wasn't until they had their own kids and watched how they understood the world and thought about the same things happening to them that they realised that what had happened to them was wrong.
Probably the least surprising news I could possibly predict for the 2020s-2030s is one of Michael Jackson's kids writing a tell all that reveals he abused them too.
And you can have late breaking news that changes how a public figure is perceived even long after their death. For example, the accusations against Jimmy Saville after his death affected his legacy significantly and his work was pulled off the air. A lot of the fallout was around people who covered for him and the way institutions closed ranks.
And part of what makes this news is that there are people in Hollywood who refuse to see what has been blatantly obvious since 1993... that Michael Jackson was a serial sexual abuser of children who was allowed to get away with it in plain sight for decades simply because he was famous.
There are five accusers, not just Robson, and parts of their stories are corroborated (for example, by a maid who testified that she saw Jackson showering naked with Safechuck).
Bernardo de La Paz
(50,265 posts)He wouldn't have behaved in perverted ways with young children. You might be able to convince some that one case or another is overblown, but there are many cases and a mountain of evidence that MJ's motives and actions were far from pure.
Concern about his children? We know that MJ dangled one of his children out over the edge of a high balcony in public. Who knows what he did to them in private.
Death is no antidote to the facts.

(889 posts)This is right from the article. A direct quote:
His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has," Streisand told The Times. You can say molested,' but those children, as you heard say [grown-up Robson and Safechuck], they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didnt kill them.
How anyone could begin to defend Streisand on this is beyond me.
A rape victim is often "thrilled" to be with his/her eventual attacker. Maybe they are at a party together, or on a date. Then the rape starts. And then the thrill is gone.
"...it didnt kill them. That is a horrible and miserable thing to say, especially since Streisand says that she absolutely believes the allegations. Let that sink in. Streisand believes the abuse happened. But it's no big deal.
So why are Streisand and Jackson being defended here at DU? It's hero worship, plain and simple.

(889 posts)Michael Jackson was one of the beautiful people. Part of the entertainment elite. So we must excuse away his vile behavior. Roman Polanski is also one of the beautiful people. So we must excuse away his vile behavior.
Barbra Streisand is also one of the beautiful people. So we must excuse away her disgusting comments.
See how that works?
