Atty. Gen. Barr expected to send summary of Mueller's Russia findings to Congress

Source: Los Angeles Times

Atty. Gen. William P. Barr plans on Sunday to send Congress what he considers the “principal conclusions” from the Russia investigation led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, according to a person familiar with his plans.

Barr has spent the weekend reviewing Mueller’s confidential report, which was submitted to him on Friday, and preparing a letter summarizing the special counsel’s work.

The letter is the first step in what will likely become a prolonged tug-of-war over fully disclosing the findings and defining what they mean for President Trump.

It’s also expected to send shockwaves throughout Washington, where Democrats and Republicans have been scrambling for political leverage even before Mueller’s conclusions were known, and potentially could alter the political landscape for the 2020 presidential campaigns.

Attorney general will issue today the ‘principal conclusions’ from Mueller’s report, Justice Department says

By Washington Post Staff
March 24 at 3:06 PM

The summary of Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation will provide Congress and the public with the first glimpse into the special counsel’s findings during his 22-month investigation to learn whether Donald Trump’s campaign coordinated with the Kremlin to interfere with the 2016 election.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Barr served as attorney general in the Bush administration from late 1991 to early 1993. Most notably, Barr railed publicly against a long running independent counsel investigation of the Reagan-Bush administration and he fully supported President Bush’s last minute pardon of Caspar Weinberger, Reagan’s former defense secretary. Weinberger had been indicted on five felony charges, including accusations that he obstructed federal investigations and lied to Congress about the Iran-Contra affair.

Seriously, what do we think he's going to do? This is why he was appointed AG. Go back to sleep America.

This right here Barr is an old time dirty deeds republican. I don't see us getting a full release without some kind of fight. During the Bush administration this recommended pardon of Weinberger along with 5 others recommended by Barr to Bush are exactly what took the heat off of Bush and undermined the special prosecutors investigation of diaries by Bush during Iran Contra and let Bush off the hook.

From the article:

There are also ongoing investigations into Trump’s inaugural committee, his now-defunct charitable foundation and his businesses.

In a recent Fox News interview, the president said, “I don’t know about these things.”

“I said to my lawyers, ‘Are we being looked at here, there?’” Trump said. “They don’t even know what people are talking about.”

Uh-huh ... RIIIGHT. That shit's not even really happening, and your lawyers are twiddling their thumbs ...

Just an absolute, bald-faced freaking LIAR.

...from a Trump appointee, and not the entire report, says all that needs to be said. If Mueller really did fully exonerate Trump, wouldn’t the White House be insisting that the entire report be released to the public immediately?

They get their talking points out and running about while the truth will only truly be revealed after a full-court press by Congressional Democrats.

Attorney general issues key findings from Mueller’s Russia report

By Devlin Barrett
March 24 at 3:35 PM

The highly anticipated summary of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation was sent to Congress on Sunday, a Justice Department official said.

Attorney General William P. Barr gave senior lawmakers the “principal conclusions” of Mueller’s probe into whether any of President Trump’s associates conspired with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election, and whether the president attempted to obstruct justice during the course of that investigation.

Mueller’s central mission has been to determine if Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election were aided or assisted in any way by Americans, including people close to Trump. In all, Russian citizens interacted with at least 14 Trump associates during the campaign and presidential transition, according to public records and interviews.

Of particular concern was the interaction between a London-based professor and a low-level Trump foreign policy adviser, George Papadopoulos. According to court filings, the professor told Papadopoulos in April 2016 that the Russians held damaging information about Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, in the form of thousands of emails.
