Trump appoints Jon Voight, Mike Huckabee to Kennedy Center board
Source: The Hill
President Trump is nominating actor Jon Voight and talk show host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), two staunch supporters of his White House, to the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The White House announced Tuesday the appointments of 10 people, including Voight and Huckabee, to terms expiring in September 2024.
Voight was one of Trumps few celebrity supporters during the campaign.

Among the other Kennedy Center nominees announced Tuesday are billionaire Kelcy Warren, the chairman Energy Transfer Partners; author Karen LeFrak; businessman Carl Lindner III of American Financial Group; and resort executive Kelly Roberts.

(18,636 posts)Should he do his best to uphold a bastion of the arts of which he participates, or go along with Huckabee and the other nominees to slash funding and ultimately destroy JFK's namesake. Tough call.

Trump, for a lifetime of artistry in speech!
and Trump again, for a lifetime of accumulation of money!
and Trump again, for great hair!
I looked it up, and there are a lot of board members. Looks like maybe 50. Almost all of them are either Fed govt department heads (Trumpers) or appointees by the Prez (36 of them!). And the First Lady is an honorary Trustee. So it's already run by whatever administration is in office, except that appointees serve a 6 year term. So a new President gets to appoint only those whose terms have expired. So I would expect that many are still Obama appointees, since he was in office for 8 years.
Maybe Trump has found a source of funding for his wall.

Here is a list of the current board and leadership:

(42,715 posts)First, the Board of Trustees itself is made up of 6 Officers, 23 ex officio members established by statute (e.g., the Speaker of the House, Mayor of DC, etc.), and 36 members appointed by the President for 6 year terms.
The Kennedy Center Honors recipients are chosen through a process that involves recommendations from the public and an Artists Committee (whose members serve fixed terms) that are reviewed by a Special Honors Advisory Committee that is made up of two members from an Artists Committee (whose members serve fixed terms), two former honorees, and two members of the Board. Their recommendations are reviewed by the President of the Kennedy Center, the Executive Committee and the producers of the annual televised event.
Surprisingly, very few of the Board members have been (or currently are) performers or artists. Voight is the exception to the rule. Indeed, apart from names like Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice (and, now, Hucksterbee), I doubt many DUers would recognize most of the current board members.

(37,648 posts)It doesn't matter who "recommends" people. All that matters is who decides. It's the executive committee, per Wiki. Since there is no executive committee, I assume that means the officers of the Board of Trustees:
David M. Rubenstein, ChairmanDeborah F. Rutter, PresidentJacqueline Badger Mars, SecretaryMichael F. Neidorff, TreasurerMaria C. Kersten, General CounselEsther Olavarria, Assistant Secretary
All that matters are the decision makers....of anything.

(395 posts)I just looked it up and the selection committee only has two members from the trustee's the rest are all past winners and others. So while both of those vile people will try their hardest to mess with things they probably won't be successful.
