Witnesses: Woman Says Her Child Was Thrown From 3rd-Floor Balcony At Mall Of America

Source: WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A child was rushed to a hospital Friday morning after reportedly being thrown from a balcony at the Mall of America.

Witnesses at the Bloomington mall told WCCO that a woman was screaming that someone threw her child from the third floor balcony.

Emergency crews could be seen performing CPR on the child in the southeast corner of the mall. A large amount of blood was on the floor.

...snip...

A source tells WCCO that the person who threw, or possibly pushed, the child fled the mall and was apprehended near the light rail station. The source said the victim was a young boy.

The barriers are waist-high, too high for a child (or probably anyone) to fall over accidentally. I don't know how anyone survives a three-story fall without serious injury - if they survive at all. The MOA's ceilings in each story are very high; all three floors would be a very long fall. I'm not hopeful.

the right has been flaming the hate against Ilhan Omar in that area.

Sorry if my comment seemed misleading - guess I didn't express it very well.
this incident is bothering me almost as much as Sandy Hook did so many years ago.

Crimes against children are just so abhorrent.

So it might be going a little too far to call this a hate crime when we don't yet know anything about either the suspect or the victim.

He was banned from the mall before for numerous offenses. Seemed to be mentally disturbed. From the OP link:

Aranda, who is being held on suspected attempted homicide, had been banned from Mall of America in the past, and was charged and convicted of misdemeanors in two separate incidents at the mall in 2015. In July of that year, Aranda was charged with causing damage inside stores, throwing items off of a balcony to a lower level and resisting arrest. Aranda was then charged in October of that year for throwing a glass of water and a glass of tea at a woman inside of Twin City Grill after she refused to buy him food.

Poor little soul; hope medicine can pull the little tyke through

The alleged attacker will be looking over his shoulder the rest of his life if he's convicted. My understanding is that other prisoners don't take kindly to crimes against children and will mete out their own kind of justice.

A man threw or pushed a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America on Friday morning, Bloomington police said, with the child suffering "significant injuries."

A 24-year-old man was arrested and is being questioned about the incident, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said. The suspect's name has not been released.

The boy was taken by ambulance from the mall to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. No further information on his condition was available.

Tina Hailey of Burnsville was walking with her husband and had just rounded the corner on the mall's first floor near Macy's when she heard screams.

It’s not as if anyone will disagree that’s it’s a horrible crime. The perpetrator has been apprehended, the child hospitalized, and that’s pretty much it as far as conversation about the event goes.
