Bill Weld officially announces he is challenging Trump for GOP nomination in 2020

Source: CNN

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld announced Monday he is officially entering the race for president, becoming the first Republican to challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 race.

"Ours is a nation built on courage, resilience, and independence. In these times of great political strife, when both major parties are entrenched in their 'win at all cost' battles, the voices of the American people are being ignored and our nation is suffering," Weld, who had previously formed an exploratory committee, said in a statement.

"It is time for patriotic men and women across our great nation to stand and plant a flag. It is time to return to the principles of Lincoln -- equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. There is no greater cause on earth than to preserve what truly makes America great. I am ready to lead that fight."

I have a question however, what Republicans would be not so bad to run? I mean yes, they are Republicans but there must be some that would be less painful if "god forbid" they won. Just asking.

I am actually glad he's jumping in to the ring. It will give Trump another enemy to focus on besides Democratic politicians and I think Weld, running as a republican, can cause some real damage to Trump. The more reasonable republicans will listen to him, even if they ignore everything we say. I don't see how it could hurt. Any challenge to Trump at this point is going to cause more turmoil within the party.

NY, Cali, and New England Republicans may be fewer in number, but the ones they have are just as conservative as elsewhere. Weld isn't even viewed as a moderate. He's considered a liberal Republican. He's the 1% of the Republican voters.

Millions from both parties will flock to your banner. Trump is weak at the center... yesss Bill Weld, feel the power flow through you.

YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A PRIMARY.

Announce you presidential candidacy now. Go independent if need be, but hang in there through the election.
