Trapped Nebraska farmer amputates leg with a pocket knife

Omaha, Nebraska: A north-eastern Nebraska farmer is recovering after cutting off his own leg with a pocket knife to save himself from a piece of farm equipment he had become caught in.

Omaha television station KETV reported that 63-year-old Kurt Kaser, of Pender, was unloading corn last month when he got out of his truck and accidentally stepped on the grain hopper opening.

An auger in the hopper caught Kaser's leg, pulling it in and mangling it. An auger is a tube that uses a rotating shaft to suck the grain and push it through the tube to deposit in a bin.

Kaser said he didn't have a phone on him and there was no one around to help. He watched as the machine tore his foot off and mangled his lower leg as it pulled him further inside.

The farmer then took out his pen knife and cut off what remained of his leg below the knee.

I’ve been searching desperately day and night to find the perfect metaphor that describes my experience of living in tRump’s America. I think I found it in the title of your post.

He says he removed a safety guard, so he's pretty philosophical about it.
