Alabama Mayor Calls for Killing LGBTQ People in Facebook Post
Source: Advocate
An Alabama mayor has posted comments on Facebook about killing LGBTQ people, then tried to deny the post was his, but finally admitted it.
Carbon Hill Mayor Mark Chambers posted a graphic that read, We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics. It has now been removed, but Birmingham TV station WBRC captured a screen shot.
A Facebook friend of his commented, By giving the minority more rights than the majority. I hate to think of the country my grandkids will live in unless somehow we change and I think that will take a revolution. Chambers responded to that comment by saying, The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know its bad to say but without killing them out theres no way to fix it.
WBRC called Chambers, who first claimed the post was on someone elses page, then ended the conversation. Then he called back and said the comment was meant to be a private message to his friend. He also said, I never said anything about killing out gays or anything like that. Then the reporter read the post back to him, and he said, Thats in a revolution. Thats right! If it comes to a revolution in this country both sides of these people will be killed out.

Ugh.
Reason thirty thousand why I'll never step foot in Alabama again and to the extent possible not do business with Alabama companies going forward.

(90,764 posts)I could give the answer that we will save ourselves but, well....not exactly sure I believe that.
Certainly the feel-good answer. One that would come to most people's lips first - whether they actually believed it or not.
It's the right answer, so to speak. The correct one. The expected one.
The hopeful one.
But I'm not sure how this all plays out. So...

We also live in a society where pseudochristians punish innocent people for their gender or orientation, straights attack anyone who is different from them, men wrest control of women's' bodies from them and ignorant fascists destroy the economy with trade wars, tariffs they don't understand and tax cuts that benefit only the already obscenely wealthy. ...But hey, don't "lecture" them, it hurts their precious fee-fees.

(50,557 posts)It's a half-horse town twenty miles from Jasper and 50 miles from Birmingham. You wouldn't just drop in on this place for the hell of it; there's an exit off I-22 and once you've left the freeway you'll drive several miles to population. Two thousand people live there. It has thirty Christian churches and no employers outside of a few gas stations and greasy-spoon restaurants. They've got a grocery store, but it's a locally-owned one; it isn't part of any chain and it appears to not be in one of the buying collectives like IGA.
According to Google Maps, it also has no gun store.
We all remember President Obama's comment about people clinging to God and guns. He was talking about places like this.

(2,195 posts)from the Daily Mountain Eagle newspaper showed a photo of the mayor with
the headline directly above reading: "CH garbage truck to get new engine block".
Somehow seemed weirdly appropriate.

(38,421 posts)Carbon Hill is a city in Walker County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in February 1891. At the 2010 census the population was 2,021, down from 2,071 in 2000. This isn't much of a town, but that isn't much of a mayor either. He now is nationally known.
