Trump still owes D.C. $7 million in inauguration costs as he plans July Fourth gala

Source: WaPo

President Trump’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial on the Fourth of July is expected to drive up security costs for an annual event that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the nation’s capital.

But the president has still not fully paid the bill for the last time he addressed a massive crowd on the Mall: His 2017 inauguration.

The Trump administration and Congress owe D.C. more than $7 million in expenses from Trump’s inauguration, according to federal and city financial records. The total cost of the four-day celebration, which culminated with a parade and gathering of roughly 600,000 people on the Mall, was $27.3 million.

As a result, the District has been forced to dip into a special fund that covers annual security costs for protecting the city from terrorist threats and hosting other events such as demonstrations, state funerals and the visits of foreign dignitaries. That fund, which for years was adequately replenished by federal dollars, is now on track to enter the red by this fall, records show.

So shouldn't they have had enough money to cover the costs of the security?
It is not like Trump and company pocketed and or grifted the money.

to all that money that was raised for the inauguration? As I recall, it was a record amount, over $100 million. Yet to this day, no one knows how it was spent. Then to find out Trump still owes money for the inauguration??? Guess I shouldn't be surprised.

On his hotels, casino, Trump University, Trump the magazine, Trump airlines, catering, contractors, architects, HVAC, the of jobs his Scottish golf course was gonna make... Trump said 2,000 but it turned out to be less than 100 with most of them being caddies ... painters, and on and on.

Hell the son of a bitch came to N. E. Ohio and told the auto workers not sell their homes because the GM plant would be safe and then got into a trade war that helped to shut the plant down.

That has been the way Trump has functioned his entire adult life. He never pays for anything if he absolutely doesn't have to and he exaggerates or lies about everything. I just find it interesting that so many stories about his campaign not paying bills are coming out at the same time. Of course, anyone who is surprised hasn't been paying attention.

Each day, I am newly amazed at what a horrible, rotten person he is.

I and my family have watch lots of DC 4th celebrations. Now Trump has to ruin it IMHO. damn

.......The fund could go even further into the hole as warm weather brings more demonstrators and other public gatherings to the nation’s capital — and as the city potentially deals with new costs stemming from Trump’s address to the nation on July 4.

The president’s appearance on the Mall is expected to bring with it a host of new security expenses and logistical headaches, requiring security for his movements and potentially cutting off visitors’ access to nearby Metro stations.

No estimate has been produced of the added costs, though National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst said security expenses would be shared by the White House, Park Service and U.S. Park Police.

Norton said the federal government’s failure to repay the city for millions in inauguration costs is one more reason Washingtonians should be leery of Trump’s involvement in the Independence Day celebration.

The Center For Public Integrity as a investigative reporter. Yesterday they published in partnership with NBC News and CNBC a story reported that at least 10 cities have been waiting for President Trump to pay police costs for his political rallies. All combined, the bills total over $800,000, a new Center for Public Integrity investigation reveals.

You can read the whole story at the link, but here are few excerpts that show Trumps hypocrisy and his robbing the taxpayers of those cities by making them pay for the expenses of his campaign rallies. If I am not mistaken it is just another example of him breaking the campaign finance laws that are so much in the news right now.

**
“Do we love law enforcement or what?” President Donald Trump asked a cheering crowd during his “Make America Great Again” political rally Oct. 12 in Lebanon, Ohio.

“Thank you, law enforcement!” the president later told officers, who he called “heroes.”

But when Lebanon City Hall sent Trump’s campaign a $16,191 invoice for police and other public safety costs associated with his event, Trump didn’t respond. Trump’s campaign likewise ignored Lebanon officials’ follow-up reminders to cover the sum — one rich enough to fund the entire police force for nearly two days in this modest city of 21,000, between Dayton and Cincinnati.

The bill remains unpaid.

**
The red ink Trump poured on Lebanon’s thin blue line is no anomaly.

At least nine other city governments — from Mesa, Arizona, to Erie, Pennsylvania — are still waiting for Trump to pay public safety-related invoices they’ve sent his presidential campaign committee in connection with his political rallies, according to interviews with local officials and municipal records obtained by the Center for Public Integrity.

Some invoices are three years old. In all, city governments say Trump’s campaign owes them at least $841,219.
**
The election is a long way off and when the word gets out to other cities that Trump is running the govt. just like he did when he became notorious for not paying his bills when he was running his private companies his options for venues to conduct his rallies may get very limited.

DC and American Taxpayers are not Deutsche Bank. $7 million dollars is a gigantic debt going unpaid for two years plus. DC should not be required to grant Trump further credit without this balance paid in full and millions in collateral put up for his July 4th Liefest. It's the responsibility of the House Oversight Committee to protect DC from such a colossal financial burden.
