Four to Face Murder Charges in Downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17

MOSCOW — International prosecutors on Wednesday said that four men, including three with close ties to the Russian military and intelligence, would face murder charges in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine five years ago, killing 298 people.

Fred Westerbeke, the chief prosecutor of the Netherlands, said that the trial would begin in the Netherlands on March 9, 2020. The accused are unlikely to be present, however, since three are in Russia and the fourth is believed to be in the breakaway region in Ukraine. But investigators said they would seek international arrest warrants for the suspects, and put out a new call for more witnesses.

“This is the start of the Dutch criminal proceedings,” Mr. Westerbeke said.

Three of the suspects are Russian, the investigators said at a news conference in Nieuwegein, Netherlands: Igor Girkin, a former colonel in the F.S.B., the Russian domestic security agency; and Sergey Dubinsky and Oleg Pulatov, who have worked for the G.R.U., the Russian military intelligence agency.

We can always trust Russians

It's good that an FSB colonel and GRU agents are being prosecuted but there are probably more people in their government who were involved, maybe Putin himself.

Still can't believe how wide a swath of people could ignore that!

Lump the Trump University scandal in, and stupidity is all I can figure.

They still think he wrote a book too I suppose and don't understand failing at casinos multiple times should be a red flag.

Seriously, fuck them and fuck every emoprog "transparency" journalist/pundit who regurgitated talking points direct from Moscow...

I'm not going to do it, but if you *really* want to kick over some rocks and know what's what, dive into the archives and see which DUers were spreading conspiracy bullshit about some Putin assassination plot, some phantom Su-25 Frogfoot, or this was a false flag orchestrated by ATC to frame poor innocent Russia, or that this was the wreckage of MH 330 planted by the American CIA...

Did they *know* they were shooting down an airliner, or was it an issue of some untrained idiots playing "what does this button do?"

As I recall there was a audiotape where Russian soldiers were telling each other they had shot down a civilian plane.

Let's not forget the rebels said they brought down a plane at that same time and same place.

TASS - of all people - still have the story up.

So it seems like mistaken identity. I am not aware of any AN-26s being shot down at the same time and same place as MH17

"DONETSK, July 17. /ITAR-TASS/. The mlitia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have brought down a military transport Antonov-26 (An-26) plane of the Ukrainian Air Force on the outskirts of the town of Torez, eyewitnesses said.

A missile hit the An-26, it fell on the ground and caught blaze, they said.

On July 14, militiamen of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic downed another An-26 of the Ukrainian Air Force."

He's saying that it's unlikely that Putin will ever allow these 4 guys to face a trial in the Netherlands. Most likely they'll never leave Russia. They could be convicted in absentia (maybe) but they wouldn't have to ever face justice.

In a perfect world, these four would be surrendered to the Dutch authorities and jailed.
