Justice Department to resume federal executions for first time in 16 years

Source: The Hill

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it will resume capital punishment for the first time in nearly two decades.

Attorney General William Barr has directed that executions for five death-row inmates be scheduled. If carried out, they will be the first federal executions since 2003.

Only three federal executions have taken place since 1988, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. All five of the death-row inmates named in Thursday's release were convicted for the murders of children.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons has adopted a regulation that will require federal authorities to use a single drug, pentobarbital, in federal executions, according to the DOJ release. That drug is used by several states for lethal injections.

The Catholics are the only major group that’s both anti-abortion and anti-death penalty. The rest of the “pro-life” crowd LOVES executions.

"phone Catholic legislators" list for social justice action.

The good Sisters trolled him mercilessly for being anti-abortion rather than pro-poor, pro-immigrant, and pro-marginalized.

When making phone calls, we were told to remind Speaker Ryan that politicians who wish to claim the pro-life mantle cannot be in the business taking funding away from social welfare programs and taking healthcare away from anyone.

The sadism is very important. When I first started talking about Trump as a malignant narcissist, people could see the narcissism, the paranoia and the antisocial element. But the fourth component of malignant narcissism is sadism. You see it in everything he does, from the separating of the children at the border to how Trump tortures anyone who doesn't give him what he wants. There's a way in which he takes a kind of manic glee in causing harm and pain and humiliation to other people.

...

Malignant narcissists deteriorate. When they gain power, they become more inflamed in their grandiosity and in their paranoia. They also become more unrestrained in their sadism and in their will to power. Malignant narcissists like Trump are antisocial and have a willingness to do anything to get and keep power. The noted psychologist Erich Fromm actually argued that such personalities then begin to verge on psychosis at that point, becoming so grandiose and paranoid that they really live on the boundary of psychosis and reality.

But you do bring to mind a whole different problem, which before this disgusting administration was of more concern than our Constitutional right to a fair trial, let alone a trial at all, was something we have to question.

And of course, it's up to every jurisdiction to provide fair trials; repugs will never provide them, and surely won't guarantee them.

The convicted murderers. And how their crimes caused them to be picked out for the death penalty from the other convicted child murderers?

Is the pentobarbitol the drug which caused such agony in Texas and Ohio in the last few years, to the point that a drug company refused to supply the state(s) with the drug?

Like all of the other episodes, watch for this to go terribly wrong.

I **REALLY** want to have a long conversation with some of the more notorious, smug, high-profile peddlers of this lie:

"ANYBODY BUT HILLARY! Because both candidates are the same, Trump can't possibly be any worse!!!"

Because I know for a fact that most of them in the three years since have been carrying on with their lives like nothing happened...

If you’re going to start executing federal prisoners to prove how tough Trump is on crime, forget this lethal injection crap (that no one has ever been able to get right and that’s almost impossible to do anymore because the people who make the drugs you need won’t sell them to you) and go back to firing squads. And forget the Utah “big chair” style firing squad; line them up against the wall and let them fall over when you shoot them.

where all authority is delegated, we have tyranny without a tyrant. Moreover, the decrees will be backed up by the unqualified, toady judges they have installed after the 2016 Great Usurpation.

We have work to do!

Perhaps Trump can auction off the best seats for campaign donations and corporations can sponsor the patriotic events.

To use executions to score political points is sick, and that is what Trump through Barr intends to do.
