Trump reportedly worked with 2 'off the books' lawyers to pressure Ukraine for damaging information

Source: Insider

Fox News' Chris Wallace reported Sunday morning that President Donald Trump has worked with two personal lawyers, in addition to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, to pressure Ukrainian officials.

Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing are two former federal prosecutors who are now best-known for their pro-Trump media appearances. The husband and wife duo run a law firm in Washington, D.C.

Trump formerly tried to recruit the two for his legal defense in the Russia probe, but a conflict of interest prohibited them from joining the president's legal team at that time.

Along with Giuliani, who previously denied that any other attorneys were involved, diGenova and Toensing worked with the president "off the books," so as not to involve the White House, in trying to solicit damaging information about Joe Biden from Ukrainian officials.

Trump's quest for information that could harm Biden's 2020 campaign prospects is the subject of the whistleblower complaint that prompted the impeachment inquiry into Trump's behavior.

And they've exported that strategy to far-right parties overseas.

Argentina's Macri, Brazil's Bolsonazi and Hungary's Orbán, among others, won elections by filling cable news with gish-galloping loudmouth surrogates - and with help from a corrupt judiciary not unlike Ken Starr.

But chicanery only gets you so far, for so long.

All of these characters are have either been rejected for a second term, or are so unpopular they're already plotting either a state of siege or Iberian exile.

Cheeto definitely falls in this second category.

If past GOP witnesses over the years are any indication, they'll either plead the Fifth, keep parroting 'I don't recall' - or refuse to appear outright.

They know this mafia don of a president will protect and/or pardon them if they do.

We know trump NEVER uses any of his own money, he even went so far to have a massive screaming fit when told the 10 or so million from the Gov't HAD to spent on the Inauguration.

When banks gave him loans to build Atlantic City, he stiffed the contractors, pocketing their money.

I am betting he uses political donations for personal/legal expenses, just like he used his foundation for income.

It would be glorious if he stiffed his lawyers...call it karma.

The challenge lies in getting the guilty off scot-free.

On the face of it, defending trump would be something that could damage your reputation, but given that there seems to be a nearly unlimited supply of crooked republicans, fuck the reputation and take the swag.
