When youve lost Pat Robertson
Reacting to President Donald Trumps announcement that American forces will pull out of Syria and pave the way for Turkey to invade the country and attack Kurdish allies, the ultra-conservative televangelist on Monday joined the growing chorus of Republican critics of the presidents decision.
I am absolutely appalled that the United States is going to betray those democratic forces in northern Syria, he said during Mondays broadcast of The 700 Club, first spotted by Right Wing Watch. That we are possibly going to allow the Turkish to come in against the Kurds.
Calling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a thug and dictator, Robertson said it was nonsense to call the Turkish leader an ally of America, claiming Erdogan is just in for himself.
Robertson, who has been a loyal Trump supporter, then took full aim at the president.
The president, who allowed [Washington Post journalist Jamal] Khashoggi to be cut in pieces without any repercussions whatsoever, is now allowing the Christians and the Kurds to be massacred by the Turks, he exclaimed. The President of the United States is in danger of losing the mandate of heaven if he permits this to happen........................................

(26,286 posts)soon enough.
weird seeing the likes of ole pat, Linds-Gram, McConnell, etc rush to call foul on this move by Mr. Trump. One wonders if they stop to think what else this fool is wrong on and they stay silent.... This just happens to be something the GOP's low-informed base happens to care about for some weird Jesus reason.
But it's only the chicken-hawk Neo-fascist Christians that care about it. The run-of-the-mill tea-party Neo-fascist rejoice in pulling out. So then one wonders what do ole pat, Linds-Gram, McConnell, etc stand to gain from shit being blown up and Americans getting killed in the mid-east.

(38 posts)Too many fingers in the pie to make Ukraine the reason for the right to go against Trump and his #CORPservative GOP enablers. So the Turkey issue is better as the last straw in the #Trexit gambit. The goal is to piss off the least number of Trump voters when #HumptyTrumpty has his great fall.

(14,962 posts)for himself. When Trump goes down, he will point to this statement and claim it was a prophecy, which proves his own authority as a mouthpiece of the almighty... and never mind all fawning things he said about Trump before, that was before Trump lost God's favor by this one action.

(13,920 posts)Maybe this is their way to try and jump ship?
They couldn't just walk away from his illegal actions, because they are all on board, and his base doesn't care about misusing the office or power of the presidency, or anything of the sort.
But this.. this is the sort of thing where they could make him look weak, convince the base he has lost his edge. Then they could walk away and hope to avoid going down with him when he fully blows out.

noun
noun: divine right of kings
the doctrine that kings derive their authority from God, not from their subjects, from which it follows that rebellion is the worst of political crimes. It was claimed in Britain by the earlier Stuarts and is also associated with the absolutism of Louis XIV of France.
===========================
The Mandate of Heaven does not require a legitimate ruler to be of noble birth, depending instead on the just and able performance of the rulers and their heirs. Dynasties such as the Han and Ming dynasties were founded by men of common origins. The concept is in some ways similar to the European concept of the divine right of kings; however, unlike the European concept, it does not in theory confer an unconditional right to rule, despite this being exactly the case in practice. The Mandate would in theory be a preoccupation in a ruler's lifetime, when he would hold onto the Mandate and live according to Heavens. Intrinsic to the concept of the Mandate of Heaven was the right of rebellion against an unjust ruler. Chinese historians interpreted a successful revolt as evidence that Heaven had withdrawn its mandate from the ruler. Throughout Chinese history, times of poverty and natural disasters were often taken as signs that heaven considered the incumbent ruler unjust and thus in need of replacement. The Mandate of Heaven was often invoked by philosophers and scholars in China as a way to curtail the abuse of power by the ruler.

(14,887 posts)evangelical so does "losing the mandate of heaven" mean king con is going to hell? If so, I'm all for it.
Xolodno
(6,390 posts)No, it doesn't mean he's going to hell. It means he's fallen out of favor with God and will not protect him anymore. If your inclined, read the Bible story about Saul who was anointed King, but fell out of favor. During a battle, rather than be taken by his enemies or fight to the death, he fell on his sword.
But I also think this is "code", Robertson is considered the evangelical grifter in chief (he took the 700 club away from Swaggart who built it from nothing, and had some of the other tele-evangelist pull a Romney/Bain Capital maneuver on the rest of his empire). I think he's telling the rest of his capo's its time to start abandoning Trump.
