Whoopi Goldberg fires back at Mitt Romney: ‘I used to respect you’

Source: nbc news

Actress and “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg took to Twitter to fire back at Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who was caught on tape during a May fundraiser saying four of the five morning show hosts are “sharp-tongued and not conservative, especially” Whoopi.

Romney made the comment to donors at a $50,000 a plate Boca Raton fundraiser that was surreptitiously recorded. His campaign has been rocked by the revelation of his comments that 47 percent of Americans will vote for President Obama no matter what, because they are dependent on government, feel “entitled,” and pay no taxes. But he also talked a little pop culture, saying in answer to donor who wanted to see him do more television — because “a lot of women especially don’t watch debates…” Romney lamented that “Regis [Philbin] is gone, speculated that late night host David Letterman “hates” him for going on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” more often, said appearing on “Saturday Night Live” can appear “slapstick” and “unpresidential,” and offered this critique of “The View:

… The View is fine. Although The View is high risk because of the five women on it, only one is conservative. Four are sharp-tongued and not conservative, Whoopi Goldberg in particular. Although last time I was on the show, she said to me, “You know what? I think I could vote for you.” And I said, “I must have done something really wrong.”

Goldberg fired back late Wednesday, in a Twitter rant in which she said she did previously respect Romney for his support for healthcare in Massachusetts, but no more:

“I once had a great deal of respect for you and many of ur stances,” Goldberg Tweeted. “You believed like Teddy Kennedy in healthcare and a woman’s right to choose and u seemed to actually care about ur people. That was the man I said was someone worth voting for & I said it publicly … Today I understand that while talking to like minded folks you took a respectful observation and wondered what you had done wrong to garner that kind of interest from me. Well Mr. Romney the man I was talking about turned into a man who flushed his ideals down the drain, only to emerge as a confused candidate…”

This is the kind of "feud" the MSM would love to use to push the 47% comments off the front page.

it's a good way to bring up to the Baggers..that mitt was a pandering liberal when it was needed to win the gov of Mass.

And, now he's pandering to the radically rich and full of resentment to the poor.

Willard had something to say about Whoopi..if she'd have a rejoinder?

Wonder if Letterman will have any rejoinders?

Freaking Coward..

Whoopi wasn’t the only “The View” cast member taking shots at Romney over his comments. On the show Wednesday, comedienne Sherri Shepherd said of Romney: “If you can’t handle four sharp-tongued women, how are you going to handle the country?”

That's what some on DU were asking.

I don't necessarily like "The View", but realize that it has had it's useful moments, which means that it gets to a lot of folks out there in daytime TV land who don't necessarily read and investigate real news.

Goldberg was too kind...

Huh? Did Romney say he believed in the woman's right to choose on the "View"? By now, it would seem that Whoopi would know he's on the opposite side of the spectrum. Was she just being sarcastic? She used to respect him because of that? I guess it was the time he stated the exceptions to rape during the Todd Akin fiasco.
The response seemed very measured for Whoopi. I imagine she let him really have it on a later show. But I don't really watch the View.

he was Gov when the Mass healthcare law passed (he supported it as well).

These are just 2 of many positions he's had to move away from this election season to prove his Repub street creds.
