Unpaid bills pile up in Trump rallies' wake

Donald Trump has raised record amounts of money as a presidential candidate. But he’s still left a slew of unpaid bills in his wake.

In city after city, across the nation, Trump has failed to pay local officials who provide thousands of dollars’ worth of security assistance to the president’s campaign during his Make America Great Again rallies.

In total, at least 10 cities have complained that the campaign has not reimbursed them for services provided by local police and fire departments, totaling more than $840,000, according to a study by the Center for Public Integrity in June.

Minneapolis may find itself next on the list after the president picked a fight with the city’s mayor on Tuesday.

vendors. Pick a fight and then use that as an excuse not to pay his bills. Classic Trump "art of the deal".

He doesn't pay his bills and he looks for reasons to justify not paying. If he doesn't pre-pay for his rallies, then the venue should lock him and his base out. He brags about how much he's brought in fundraising (although he's surely lying, because that is what he does) and vendors end up being responsible for any shortcomings when he doesn't pay. MAGA my a$$.

They're the ones requiring Trump to pre-pay, not the city.

The city billed the Target Center which, in turn, billed Trump. Trump's swindling has become well known enough so that pre-payment for security is required for this week's event.

City officials told the Target Center, which is managed by AEG, that it would be responsible for paying the costs. The center then allegedly tried to pass the bill on to Trump’s team and told them they would not be able to use the arena unless they agreed to the charges.

Will Trump pay up? It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

were responsible for paying the security bill. AEG turned around and sent an estimated pre-bill to the Trump campaign. But I suppose this is a distinction without a difference.

As much contempt I have for many law enforcement agencies; they are at least minimally vetted locally by taxpayers.

Private security firms hired by Trump engaging in lockdowns of city streets is not a precedent I’m willing to entertain.

It sure is awful that city after city is being stiffed on the bills; however the alternative is fucking scary...

according the Politico story, but, iirc, the campaign is supposed to reimburse the government for services provided during campaign rallies.

An unpaid police bill means a budget shortfall. It means fewer officers on the street. Fewer officers investigating crime, case dropped prematurely as departments cut overtime hours and try to cut corners.

And that is before you factor in the widely proven fact that violent and racist crime spikes for a while after a Trump visit.

Trump visits represent a loss to the community. A reduction in safety. His visits should be welcomed with the same enthusiasm as the plague.
