Trump has awarded next year's G-7 summit of world leaders to his Miami-area resort
Source: Washington Post
President Trump has awarded the G-7 Summit of world leaders to his own private company, scheduling the massive gathering for next year at his Trump Doral resort outside Miami, the White House said Thursday.
That decision will bring hundreds of diplomats, media and security personnel to Trumps financially struggling resort where profits fell 70 percent after Trump entered politics. These events typically fill the host resort, bringing large payments for rooms and meals, and providing global publicity. This appears to be the first time in American history that a president has given such a massive contract to himself. Trump still owns the Doral resort, and can draw profits from it, though his company has said they will not over-charge the government.
The G-7 Summit rotates between sites chosen by the seven member countries, as well as by the European Union. The last time it was held in the U.S., in 2012, President Obama held it at the government-owned retreat at Camp David in Maryland. Before that, President George W. Bush held it at the exclusive, isolated resort of Sea Island, Ga. in 2004.
This year, Trump had hinted repeatedly that he intended to award the event to himself. At this years G-7 Summit, held in August in Biarritz, France, Trump said his aides had examined other sites and come back to tell him that Doral is the best. The site is set among office parks, in an inland area near the Miami airport. They went to places all over the country, and they came back and they said, This is where wed like to be, Trump said then. Its not about me. Its about getting the right location. He particularly praised the clubs ample parking.

Fucking in-your-face unethical greed.
A textbook case of "emoluments".

They are all complicit and should suffer just consequences for supporting a traitor and being traitors themselves.

Then it can be moved to a more proper location.
not_the_one
(2,227 posts)should WARN all G7 country leaders that to attend a meeting at the location would be violating the US constitution, and if they DO attend, the democrat who wins the presidency will REMEMBER and take that into account during every negotiation with that country.
We will NOT take kindly to ANY foreign country who blatantly disregards the tenets of our constitution.

(12,586 posts)to make the Doral beautiful for Trump's paying guests? How much is it going to take to turn that run-down piece of shit into something resembling a Motel 8? To add new out buildings? Indoor plumbing? How many dollars are going to find their way directly into Fat Donnie's pocket because of the graft and corruption that he just blatantly pulls and then brags about it.
If Trump doesn't deserve to be impeached and removed, then no other president from now on will have to worry about impeachment. He will have proven once and for all that the president is truly above the law.
And the GOP is compliant in enabling him to do it.

(638 posts)The other countries should make it clear they will not attend. Perfectly acceptable for them to state that it would be improper and unethical due to the venue.
