Tropical storm warnings issued from Louisiana to Florida as storm takes aim

Source: ABC News

Tropical storm warnings have been issued from Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle as a storm takes aim at the Sunshine State.

The system is expected to develop into Tropical Storm Nestor on Friday afternoon.

Nestor will then make landfall along the Florida Panhandle near Panama City sometime Saturday morning.

The biggest threat with this storm will be storm surge, as ocean water could rise up to 5 feet from Apalachicola to Cedar Key, Florida. Water could rise up to 4 feet as far south as Clearwater.

The current NHC advisory has it at 60MPH winds. But is still has it listed as a potential tropical storm.

Why isn't it a named storm yet?

They don't call it Nestor.

Here is the link to the NHC "cone" map and it doesn't say Nestor. They call it "POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE SIXTEEN"

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/145015.shtml?cone#contents

It is pretty easy to project what the next name would be but I don't see NHC using it yet.

Just wondering why

There was just a segment on the John Oliver show the other day about how the NHC names storms to generate appropriate attention for life threatening events. It was stated that they are unhappy with the media for naming winter storms arbitrarily because it could undermine their base purpose.

What does Dog have against Trump supporters anyway? I stayed in Cedar Key for a week once. That place will be under water with a 5 foot storm surge.
