Trump is 'in the hospitality business,' Mulvaney says, after president reverses plan to host summit

(full title) Trump is 'in the hospitality business,' Mulvaney says, after president reverses plan to host summit at his golf club

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Sunday defended President Trump’s decision — reversed in a tweet late Saturday — to host next year’s G-7 summit at his resort hotel near Miami, saying the president “still considers himself to be in the hospitality business".

In a pointed interview with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Mulvaney also defended his controversial remarks that on their face supported the case that Trump had offered to resume military aid to Ukraine in exchange for help from that country’s president in pursuing an investigation into the 2016 U.S. election. He said his words were taken out of context — he never uttered the damaging phrase “quid pro quo” — but Wallace didn’t seem convinced.

... Mulvaney, who had previously dismissed Camp David as a G-7 meeting site, said that Trump was “honestly surprised at the level of pushback” over the plan to host next year’s gathering at Trump National Doral golf resort in Florida.

... “At the end of the day he still considers himself to be in the hospitality business, and he saw an opportunity to take the biggest leaders from around the world and he wanted to put on the absolute best show, the best visit that he possibly could, and he was very comfortable doing that at Doral,” Mulvaney said. “I think we were all surprised at the level of pushback. I think it’s the right decision to change and we’ll have to find someplace else, and my guess is we’ll find someplace else the media won’t like for another reason.”

And Wallace pushes back and then ensues an incredible and funny dialog (in a pathetic way).

There's also plenty of dialog and background on Mulvaney reversing himself on whether Trump was holding back on military aid to Ukraine in exchange for information on a political rival. ... "He said his words were taken out of context — he never uttered the damaging phrase “quid pro quo” — but Wallace didn’t seem convinced."

There's a video of it at the link.

working for rump have any brains at all, or even consider what negative optics this shows ... a clear path to rump's wallet? And this guy Mulvaney is a tea party guy, supporting this effort to have the event at Doral? What a farce and what an idiot. And a hypocrite too of the highest order.

Tweedle dee and Tweedle dumb, making $$$$ off the Dump hotels due to all the foreign leaders staying there since their grifting dat got installed by the Russians. Start investigating NOW, while the memory of the failed G7 grift-a-thon is still fresh in the public's mind.

Ivanka getting Chinese patents since Trump in office, sitting in at the UN and mixing business with politics with world leaders, despite being an unelected cabinet member as it were. And of course the private emails, every bit as egregious as HRC's, only AFTER explicit rules were put in place to avoid this in the future.

Jared making millions in real estate while dealing with foreign leaders in an unelected position, plus all the secrecy and questions around his security clearance

And all of them going along on taxpayer-funded junkets to foreign countries.

Trump/Giuliani and the rest of the goon squad wants to go after Hunter Biden, really? OK, let's turn the fucking tables, there's *actual* crimes being committed here!! Not just "suspicious"! Not just "improper", or "ill-advised". ACTUAL crimes! Why am I not hearing about anyone going after these unbridled hypocrites??

claims the tRump campaign wanted to go after "improper dealings" overseas. Take a look at this WH. Plenty of fodder there to clean up corruption in THIS country. What a joke the gop turned out to be. Party of "family values" has NO values, family or otherwise. Blatant, in your face corruption from the entire group. They are turning this country into a banana republic, led by the worst excuse for a president to ever hold office. We deserve to know what the HELL is wrong with tRump. Is he mentally unfit? I would vote YES, from all indications. He is suffering from mental decline, obviously. This circus of an administration has lasted too long.

detailed in David Cay Johnston's book, "The Making of Donald Trump", and I'm sure in many other books and articles.

The book made the point that pretty much everybody doing construction in New York City, at least on a large scale, had to get along with the mob to some extent, but Trump went much further than most.

The one part I remember from the book was during a strike, the mob made sure that Trump got all the steel and concrete he needed, while most other builders were left hanging.

And that yellow sign on the cage near the far left: "Pod 2".

It's like something from a dystopian science fiction movie. "Darth, rip that crying toddler away from his mother and put him away in Pod 2, where we will give him plenty to cry about"

Sheesh.

business?

His ONLY business should be governing this republic by the principles in the Constitution and leading this nation as an example of a functioning democracy. Since he obviously can't do that and doesn't even pretend to, ,he needs to get the hell out of the WH and take his crime family and mob pals with him.

As for hospitality, I think there are several thousand guests at the border who will not give his facilities good ratings.
