resident Donald Trumps obsession with former CIA director John Brennan could be on a collision course with an ongoing Justice Department probe as Attorney General Bill Barr takes a more hands-on approach to examining the intelligence communitys actions in 2016.
Barr has been meeting with the U.S. closest foreign intelligence allies in recent months, making repeated overseas trips as part of an investigation he is overseeing into the origins of the Russia probe and whether any inappropriate spying occurred on Trumps campaign.
As part of that investigation, Barr and John Durham, the federal prosecutor he appointed to conduct it, have been probing a conspiracy theory for which there is little if any evidence, according to several people with knowledge of the matter: that a key player in the Russia probe, a professor named Joseph Mifsud, was actually a Western intelligence asset sent to discredit the Trump campaign and that the CIA, under Brennan, was somehow involved.
Trump, meanwhile, has become obsessed with Brennan, who frequently gets under the presidents skin by publicly questioning his mental acuity and fitness for office, according to a former White House official. On Brennan, it was always, hes an idiot, hes a crook, we ought to investigate him, this person said, characterizing Trumps outbursts.

(70,501 posts)Thank God we have real patriots like Brennan. Trump is part of the biggest crime in American
history. You can't be for America and Trump at the same time.
BTW Natasha Bertrand is hot.

(4,483 posts)We're supposed to "get over it" and the Mueller and impeachment investigations are because we can't accept the results of the 2016 election. Seems to me the Republicans are the ones who can't "get over it" and let it go--and they *won* for god's sake! How much more time in the Trump residency is going to be wasted on trying to proved he really did win?

(41,832 posts)This is a great article. I read it earlier today. I thought then about posting it in GD, but got distracted.
This is an analysis of Trump and Barr's feelings about Brennan and the intelligence groups.
It's not really breaking news.
Please re-post in GD...
