MPs reject Johnson's Brexit timetable; a major defeat for the PM

MPs have voted to reject the governments timetable for the passage of the bill that would implement the prime ministers Brexit deal.
They voted against by 322 to 308; a majority of 14.
Boris Johnson said earlier today he would withdraw the bill and seek a general election if he lost the vote.

Johnson says he'll talk to the EU and put the bill on hold; no sign of asking for an election yet.

(129,047 posts)I think they would want to go back to a pre-Brexit environment, although I think they need to take a deeper look at what caused this mess in the first place, which is something that has been difficult for us to do here as well due to compromised elected officials - I,.e., massive interference by Russia and their oligarchs, who have propped up the extreme RW.

Following PM @BorisJohnsons decision to pause the process of ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement, and in order to avoid a no-deal #Brexit, I will recommend the EU27 accept the UK request for an extension. For this I will propose a written procedure.
