Mike Espy announces run for U.S. Senate

Source: WAPT-TV

JACKSON, Miss. —
Democrat Mike Espy announced Tuesday that he will make another run for U.S. Senate.

Espy said he’s energized and ready to take on U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith again after losing his bid to unseat her in last year’s special election.

Republican Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Hyde-Smith to the Senate in early 2018 when Republican Thad Cochran retired. In the November 2018 election to finish the term, Hyde-Smith won 54% to Espy's 46%.

Days later, Espy created a committee to run in 2020. He made it official Tuesday with the release of an announcement video.

and Hyde-Smith did as poorly as she did because of her pro-lynching remarks? Mississippians got out the vote on Espy's account. More can be done, and I for one, am extremely heartened to see that Espy is not in the least daunted.

That's not to say all hope is lost and it would be futile to try though as a well run campaign with broad support could do it given enough time and resources to build a base.

it could happen if combined with high turnout from our side. Since 2020 is a presidential election year, we could inspire higher turnout.
