After nearly three years and over a million dollars spent, the House Ethics Committee has exonerated Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) in the matter of a seemingly never ending ethics investigation that has featured many twists and turns.
The Waters probe has included an outside counsel and six members of the Committee recusing themselves from the investigation. In general terms, the way the investigation proceeded featured several unprecedented moments particularly with regard to hiring an outside counsel at taxpayer expense.
Rep. Waters sat with her husband, Sidney Williams, and her Chief of Staff, who is also her grandson, Mikhail Moore, testified to the committee. Ethics Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) announced the exoneration yet indicated the three plus year investigation may continue on Waters chief of staff.
Waters is currently the most senior and most powerful Black female member of Congress. She is set to become either the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee or the Chairwoman of the committee, depending on whether Democrats win control of the House.

During the joint session of Congress to certify the 2000 Election Results, many African American members of Congress raised objections about the fraud and misconduct involved in the electoral process in Florida. Needing the signature of just one senator to open up debate on the results of the election, no senator came forward:
"Not a single Senator came to the aid of the African Americans in Congress. One after another they were told to sit down and shut up." - Michael Moore narrating Fahrenheit 9/11.
"The objection is in writing and I don't CARE that it is not signed by a member of the Senate!" - Maxine Waters (D - CA), as seen in 'Fahrenheit 911,' elected in November 2002 to her seventh term in the House of Representatives.

(18,124 posts)after reading the article and seeing how all the white representatives who were repug/thugs under suspicion but were not even investigated, yet a host of African-American democratic party representatives were put under investigation, I ask myself why should I be surprised. Any nation, that as policy, annihilated whole nations of native-american people and then penned the survivors up in 'reservations'(american homelands) in the name of manifest destiny, why should I be surprised or even angry? If this nation, as policy, could enslave a whole race of people in the name of manifest destiny and with christian acquiescence what can I expect from these type of people? Then when that right of enslavement was taken away, a civil war had to be fought for this to be brought about, they separated a whole race of people, by using apartheid racist laws based on that 3/4 human bit, and called it segregation of the inferiors by their superiors. Why should I even wonder why there is so much racial hate in this land of ours. I could go into the homophobia, subjugation of women, birth certificate, clandestine meetings to make a black president fail, dog whistling election campaign based on barely disguised racial baiting, but I won't.

(84,711 posts)Repugs retribution goes down on this one. But, Don Seigelman is back in jail. And many fine Dem Congressmen were redistricted out of their seats by Repugs in this election.
Much work left to be done.

(22,271 posts)I LOVE Maxine! I'll never forget her impassioned pleas during the Theft of the Presidency in 2000 AND her standing up defending Bill Clinton during the Blue Dress Witch Hunts. She's a courageous women who will not be intimidated. I absolutely love that in a representative. I wish she was my representative.
