WASHINGTON The Trump administration will announce a plan Wednesday to end food stamp benefits for about 750,000 Americans, issuing a new regulation that makes it harder for states to gain waivers from a requirement that beneficiaries work or participate in a vocational training program, according to people familiar with the matter.
Conservatives have long sought cuts in the federal food assistance program for the poor. House Republicans tried to impose similar restrictions last year when Congress renewed the program but were rebuffed in the Senate.
The measure would be the first of three Trump administration initiatives curtailing food stamp benefits to take effect. The Urban Institute estimated in an analysis last month that the measures together would cut 3.7 million beneficiaries from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, often known by its previous name, food stamps.
The work requirement only applies to able-bodied recipients who arent caring for a child under 6 years old.

(11,885 posts)And this now. Expect huge cuts to Medicare ,Medicaid , and Social Security designed to destroy these programs if trump and the GOP have any way to do it if they get elected. If trump's given absolute power he will cut all programs for the American people, all safety net programs, all benefits, anything going to others, to increase what he can get for himself.

(45,442 posts)and might decide to vote Dem. Many of these folks live in rural areas that have been left out from the new economy, can't afford to move, and are caring for family members who might be elderly, disabled, etc. Many people have kids over the age of 6 who require full time supervision but they can't afford day care. It's a big problem for single parent households and low income households.
The Trump administration is emboldened by the strong economy to enact draconian cuts, but they are screwing people in red states and swing states. This should have some electoral consequences.
