Trump plans to boycott St Patrick's Day Speakers' lunch in Washington

Source: Irish Times

US president Donald Trump is planning to boycott the annual St Patrick’s Day Speakers’ lunch in Washington next week the Irish Times has learned, amid ongoing tensions between the president and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The president traditionally attends the lunch on Capitol Hill which is hosted by the House Speaker – one of the rare times in the year that the president visits congress.

But it is understood that Mr Trump and vice president Mike Pence have indicated they will not attend next Thursday, though the Oval Office meeting between the Taoiseach and the president will proceed as planned at the White House.

A decision not to attend the Speaker’s lunch would mark a break with tradition. The lunch is traditionally an opportunity for politicians from both political parties to put aside their political differences and celebrate Irish-American heritage. But the relationship between Mr Trump and Ms Pelosi is at a low point.

OK - I had to google 'Taoiseach'.

The Taoiseach is the prime minister and head of government of Ireland. The Taoiseach is appointed by the President upon the nomination of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, and must, to remain in office, retain the support of a majority in the Dáil.

It would be petty but great if Pelosi stated: "Ladies and gentleman the impeached President will not be joining us today. But I will be praying for his mind, body and spirit".

Being petty is more effective against Trump than being professional. Dems need to make his base focus on his insecurities and failures. Highlight and repeat his flaws and failures to his base. Make them see him as a human and a lifelong failure.

...was there and offered gracious words. Of course he did, and this was after impeachment, too.

But the Irish peace process was/is also important to President Clinton, and it was there in the remarks too.

I'm searching in vain for video of the event, but the remarks are online. Will add them if I manage to get a good URL.

Trump would not eat in public when he was in India. You never actually see him eat in a public setting now. His enablers don't want anyone to see him trying to chew/swallow his food as he risks choking. Aside from the fact that he probably also makes a mess and there's no way to make that slob look regal, or less like a toddler, doing it. Imagine the POTUS having to wear a smock while an aide does the airplane thing to get him to eat?

He won't be going anywhere for fear of the virus. He will blame every instance on Democrats and some obscure, made up excuse that he is somehow talking a stand.

In actuality he is going into hiding in plain sight.

I don't have an estimate of the number of attendees each year, but there are lots of videos, pictures, and speeches online that hint at the nature of the event.

I don't care if you're afraid of catching the "cronavirus" or pissing yourself in mortal terror that Pelosi will step on your moment of glory and make fun of you (yet again) but wee wee wee all the way home, little piggie. All sane people are relieved to be spared your grotesque walking-sewage-plant presence.

Anyway, Trump would have twisted the narrative around to himself and demanded a Donald J. Trump day in his honor, maybe for saving America from the Coronavirus.
