Scott Brown Says He “Regrets” the “Unacceptable” Behavior of His Staff
Source: New York Times
6:43 p.m. | Updated BOSTON After a second day in which a video of racist behavior by his staff members threatened to overwhelm his re-election bid, Senator Scott P. Browns campaign issued a statement Wednesday evening saying he regrets what he called unacceptable behavior.
He also issued a verbal warning to his staff members who participated in the tomahawk chops and Indian war whoops and to all of his staff that such conduct would not be tolerated, according to a statement from his office.
The statement, from his spokeswoman, Alleigh Marre, follows:
Senator Brown has spoken to his entire staff including the individuals involved in this unacceptable behavior and issued them their one and only warning that this type of conduct will not be tolerated. As we enter the final stretch of this campaign, emotions are running high, and while Senator Brown cant control everyone, he is encouraging both sides to act with respect. He regrets that members of his staff did not live up to the high standards that the people of Massachusetts expect and deserve.
The principal chief of the Cherokee Nation had asked Senator Scott P. Brown to apologize for what he called the downright racist gestures of Brown supporters at a campaign event Saturday in Dorchester, Mass.

(61,599 posts)Brown has made these accusations a feature of his campaign ever since the debate, when he accused Warren of "lying" about her heritage. Since then he's doubled down on the accusations, including making at least one ad in which he repeats them.

(14,177 posts)There are things that people can do that would get them immediately fired if was up to me. This is one of those things. I would give them the pink slip and I wouldn't even say I am sorry. This isn't the only thing, violence would be another. Vandalism stuff like that. Things that are so clearly wrong that most people agree they are wrong with or without laws or rules against the behavior.

also are proud that some of their family members are from mixed
Blood ancestors.
I am proud that in my body flows the Cherokee blood of my great grandmother and grandfather on my fathers side.
On my mother's side...her father had blue eyes/strait hair and when he would proudly take me downtown people would stop him to admire me.
They would said things like..."what a pretty little girl. Is that your maids
child?"
He would tip his hat and say..."No...this is my beautiful grand daughter --I am a colored man.....good day. "
Tears drop on my keyboard as I remember.
How those mean words must have crushed the heart of Ms. Warren.

(2,574 posts)If any of these staff members were on Brown's Senate staff and are thus government employees, they were illegally involved in Brown's campaign on the taxpayers' dime. Isn't that a violation of federal law by Brown? It seems to me similar to the John Doe crimes
being charged from misappropriations of government resources during Scott Walker's campaign. In those charges I think the employees are being charged and Walker is claiming ignorance of their violations. But in this case, you see Brown right there witnessing his staff campaigning for him. If any of those employees are salaried as his Senate staff not campaign staff, seems it's
similar to misusing his franking privilege to send out campaign literature.
So this racist stuff from his employees might not only be indecent, it also might be illegal.
