(2,412 posts)Yes, this is an outrageous distraction. Under cover of the Fog of Coronavirus the Far Right is relentlessly moving toward their goals of amassing all the money and assets, destroying public goods and institutions and taking care of their own! Government has been drowned in the bathtub and cant help us!

(49,043 posts)The key undeniable fact to keep in front of voters: Trump FAILED TO DEFEND America
It does not matter how the virus originated.
It does not matter where it originated.
Trump failed at his primary duty.
He swore to defend the US Constitution. You can't do that if you fail to defend the country of that Constitution. How do you keep a nation free by failing to defend it?
The Vice President, each Member of Congress, all officers in federal service (military and civilian as well as every enlisted service member explicitly swears to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic ", except the President. But as Commander in Chief, it is implicit, as well as being implicit in the President's Oath:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Trump failed to defend the US.
He destroyed some of the warning systems (2018, 2019).
He "trusted" the WHO though he now says they are untrustworthy.
He disbelieved the USA Intelligence Community.
So many other markers of inaction and wrong actions.
Political advocacy is most effective when it clear, simple, and undeniably true.
Keep this key fact front and foremost through Nov 3 in the minds of voters.

(2,506 posts)Even has Barr threatening to sue states now. None of these issues are big enough to cover up his coronavirus debacle so he'll keep trying. Watch the media though. They'll follow his tweet. They do every time.

(12,608 posts)Its been over a month since the Defense Department instituted a travel ban and issued new policy requiring social distancing wherever possible throughout the force, but the spread of coronavirus among troops continues unabated.
Since late March, the services have averaged between 100 and 200 new cases daily among service members. The most recent count, according to DoDs data, shows 3,438 cases, up from 2,986 on Friday.
The infection rate among service members stands at 1,637-per-million as of Monday, compared with the overall U.S. rate of 2,283-per-million. With 22 deaths so far, DoDs death rate is at 0.4 percent versus the overall U.S. rate of 5 percent.
Senior Defense officials have acknowledged that asymptomatic carriers could mean hundreds or thousands of unknown COVID-19 cases among the ranks, prompting a new push for more thorough testing.

(17,641 posts)Trump has a very limited vocabulary. He has to have multiple meanings for the few phrases he uses.
Chainfire
(17,641 posts)were civilian pleasure boats. They are as much danger to American warships as a gnat is to an elephant. Of course, they could load up with TNT and damage or sink a frigate or a destroyer. The Iranians know that just out of sight, over the horizon, stands the full power of a nuclear navy.
The truth is is that we don't have a clue if the American ships are in Iranian waters, unless, of course, that you believe everything the Trump government tells you. Trump has demonstrated that he is perfectly willing to sacrifice American lives to bolster his political position. Trump would be willing to sacrifice sailors and a ship or two to reduce the heat in his kitchen. A shooting war would be a win-win for Trump with his faithful. Nothing shows leadership, power and authority like films of "enemy" positions being blown up by smart bombs. Yea-Yea- Go Team!
Trump is losing the popularity struggle. To him, it would make perfect sense to start a shooting war with Iran. Anything to alter the unrelenting virus news. The man is a clear and present danger to the entire world. Back him into a corner and there is no limit to what Trump is capable of doing. There are few practical stops on his ability to exercise of power of the Commander In Chief of US military forces.
We put a madman in our White House, we can expect him to do crazy things.
