LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept 27 (Reuters) - A proposal to legalize medical marijuana can appear on the November ballot, the Arkansas Supreme Court said on Thursday, in a ruling that could make Arkansas the first southern state to allow certain patients to use the drug.
The Coalition to Preserve Arkansas Values filed suit in August to keep the measure off the ballot. The group argued that its title - the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act - was misleading and the proposal was hard to understand.
In a unanimous ruling, the court rejected the coalition's argument.
Associate Justice Karen R. Baker wrote in the opinion that the ballot name and title were acceptable. The title was not "duly long, nor is it complex or misleading," she added.

(735 posts)Good for justice Karen Baker!! It SHOULD be left up to the people of the state. And since it helped my mom so much when she was going through chemo and radiation with brain cancer (thanks to my brother) I for one will be voting YES!!!

(1,805 posts)WTG, Arkansas. Of all places!
I'm not a FB fan, although I have a bogus account. Anyway, do a search for Kuro Groves - I've seen the mini doc he put on YouTube (listed on his FB site) and know him to be beyond a good guy. We've talked on the phone many times. He's been through it, so I'm a believer! I got the oil, which isn't easy, and tried it for a long time since I have leukemia, sadly to no avail. Think it works better for skin and more visible diseases, though lots of folks would disagree with me.
CBD which can be made from the blunt is good stuff without the high is available, although not at the dispensaries, at lease the ones I've been in. I have a super LOW tolerance for herb.
Janlyn,
so will I! I never saw the petition (I drive petition signature folks crazy, I actually READ what I'm asked to sign), but I would have signed this one.

(27,247 posts)It was the current initiative's predecessor that didn't make it to the ballot (petition circulated in 2010, I think). Anyway, it's good to see it on the ballot this time around. Initiative #5.
