Trump says he'll block virus aid unless Congress cuts taxes for businesses

Source: American Independent

By Emily Singer -May 4, 2020 11:11 AM

Trump wants a payroll tax cut — which would do nothing to aid more than 30 million Americans who have been laid off.

Donald Trump on Sunday said he will not approve any more aid for the tens of millions of Americans who have lost their jobs as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic unless Congress cuts taxes for businesses.

"We’re not doing anything without a payroll tax cut," Trump said Sunday night during a Fox News town hall.

A payroll tax cut would cut taxes for businesses and for employees who are still receiving paychecks, but would do nothing to aid the more than 30 million Americans who have been laid off.

Experts say a payroll tax cut wouldn't help create jobs.

Under normal circumstances, as in before the virus, Soc.Sec. fund was good for another 10 years till it needed attention.

Those behind the Malignant Capitalism of the last 20 +years have talked of various schemes to move Soc.Sec./Medicare into the General Fund, where it could be spent on anything = end of both programs.

The Repugs have viscerally despised Social Security since day one. Now they've got a Perfect Storm -- a pandemic, a panicked population, and a president who hates Americans almost as much as he hates himself. Trump is using the excuse of the pandemic to get rid of everything he hates -- WHO, Social Security, taxes on the extremely wealthy. NATO is probably next on the chopping block, with Canada not far behind.

When Trump said, "When somebody’s president of the United States, the authority is total," he told us everything we need to know about his mindset. And given how the Senate Republicans gave him carte blanche during the impeachment "trial," and the new makeup of the SCOTUS, he's probably not far from wrong.

Oh, you just hear tax cut, think it's good and about you. You don't bother to read the details or figure things out. You can't think for yourself. Investigating something take away from your gun cleaning and dwarf tossing. Thick as a brick. A bag of stones.

And THAT's only a short list of why you are his base. Well, you sure don't deserve a democracy or the freedom that comes with it. Oh, but that's too complex a topic and I stop here.

for more people because it will cause things like corporations to do things like raise the workers pay on their own is a complete and utter failure.
All it does it lead to corporations doing things like buying their own stock back to raise its value and handing out huge bonuses to the higher ups while barely providing even a smidgen of crumbs for the average worker.

effed, as far as his chances of getting reelected go. So he is desperately trying to hang onto support from Republican Congressmen, who are now distancing themselves from him because they, too, know Trump is effed. But Trump thinks if he destroys Social Security he can win them back. He doesn't understand that even stronger than Republicans' desire to drown Social Security in a bathtub is their overwhelming instinct for self-preservation.

There is no honor among thieves. Trump has proved this time and time again by throwing his partners in crime under the bus the minute they become a liability to him. If Trump thinks his co-conspirators in Congress will be loyal to him when they think their own chances of getting reelected are imperiled, he is so very wrong. Universal karma in action.

I'm so glad I found this forum! It helps so much to know I'm not the only one seething with anger and frustration and outrage. Even though there is a global frickin' pandemic, so many Americans are not paying that much attention to what is going on, which makes them extremely susceptible to Trump's lies. And I don't mean Fox viewers, who are actually tuned in, but to the worst possible source of information they could possibly be attuned to. I'm talking about people who have never paid attention to politics and still don't pay it any mind. They vaguely hear something (one of Trump's lies) on TV while they're flipping through the channels and the next thing you know, that lie is part of their belief system. It's crazy. November cannot get here fast enough.

He's determined to get this for 3 reasons -

1 - It will destroy our economy even more so he has his excuse to steal all the money from SS & Medicare
2- doesn't do anything for the working class/poor
3- this is probably #1 for him - puts $$ in his pocket

Dems need to just say no- this is what he's been consistently pushing so that means it helps him and hurts America. He's already stolen 500 billion for his re-election fund, don't give him anything else, nada, zip. He thinks he can trade reforming the Post Office so it hurts businesses like Amazon for them staying open and Dems will give him the tax cut. Fuck no. There is no trade to be made, nothing so good that it's worth killing our SS & Medicare - nothing. Anything he might say will be a total lie, like the IG he agreed to then cut the person & said he'd be in charge. This is how drumpf stole 500 billion from the American treasury for himself and won't repay one fucking dime. Don't give him another shot, please, Democrats.

30. Non sequitur. Cutting the payroll tax is not "cutting taxes for businesses"
Mon May 4, 2020, 01:08 PM
May 2020

The payroll tax is paid entirely by the employee, not the business. If one works for a company via W-2 income, the payroll tax is split between the employer and employee but what the employer pays represents additional wages they would pay the employee anyway.

And, in today's 'murika, few, if any, large businesses pay any taxes anyway, so there's nothing to "cut." So any largess derived from this scheme would be under the assumption that the usual portion would be laundered back as "campaign contributions" to the GOP/trump.

That rate is 7.65% for 2020 for SS and Medicare. Trump cuts that FICA rate by 2-3% then yes the business would get a tax cut. Obama lowered FICA taxes for one year in 2011 during the worst economic times since Reagan. It was strictly for one year, let's see FatNixon put a time frame on it.

Trump doesn't give a shit about some peeps working making a bit more with that reduction,he cares about killing off SS and Medicare.

It reminds me that the republi-CONS always hate taxes. The first thing they try to do when they get back in power is cut taxes. Because THEY are the original, and quintessential free-stuff crowd. They want the goodies and the services but don't want to have to pay for it.

So okay, then.

No more government services for you, GOP. Maybe we should force your representatives to work for free. Don't expect your food to be safe, because we won't pay for the food inspectors and package safety certifications anymore. Don't want no gumnnt? Ya takes ya chances. No police or fire protection. Since you aren't paying any taxes, fund your own home protection then! Don't expect to call the cops if you have a prowler. Or the fire department if your house catches fire. Or if you have a heart attack, get yer own ass to the hospital. There won't be any first responders racing to your house with lights and sirens blaring to save you.
