(Washington D.C.) -- President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened social media companies with new regulations or even shuttering a day after Twitter added fact checks to two of his tweets. The president can't unilaterally regulate or close the companies, which would require action by Congress or the Federal Communications Commission. But that didn't stop Trump from angrily issuing a strong warning.
Claiming tech giants "silence conservative voices," Trump tweeted, "We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen." Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen.
We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can't let a more sophisticated version of that....-- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 27, 2020 And he repeated his unsubstantiated claim -- which sparked his latest showdown with Silicon Valley -- that expanding mail-in voting "would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots."
Trump and his campaign angrily lashed out Tuesday after Twitter added a warning phrase to two Trump tweets that called mail-in ballots "fraudulent" and predicted that "mail boxes will be robbed," among other things. Under the tweets, there is now a link reading "Get the facts about mail-in ballots" that guides users to a Twitter "moments" page with fact checks and news stories about Trump's unsubstantiated claims...

(22,124 posts)I'm wondering when in the hell will he stroke out, since he literally gets mad if someone sneezes the wrong way around him?
I'm surprised that Twitter did this (warnings on two of idiot's tweets) ... maybe public peer pressure is finally getting to Twitter or they're getting their behinds sued off in court.
I'm impressed that they did something finally.

(3,495 posts)He already gets away with breaking ANY rule he chooses. This isn't any different. He and his followers have a really tough time differentiating truth from fiction and frankly no one seems to care anymore what reality really is so why not try and bully to get one more their "realities" inserted into the conversation. As other's have pointed out, these folks seem stuck on being "the victim" (and they call us snowflakes).

(111,257 posts)especially now that he can't go around to conservative areas to whip up hate. I love how this has wounded him, a very subtle fact check link that didn't outright contradict him straight to his ugly face.
This is how you deal with him, keep lacerating that thin skin and eventually he'll pop.
I hope Dorsey is watching closely and I hope he realizes this is all bluster and Big Dummy can't do a single damned thing about it.

Of course, where Trumpelthinskin is concerned, he is allowed to dish it out, but nobody better try to serve it to him.
Every single day he reveals himself to be less and less worthy to be a leader of people.

(101,316 posts)on some characters:
CBLDF is leading a coalition protesting the removal of a cartoon satirizing President Donald Trump by Pulitzer Prizewinning editorial cartoonist Nick Anderson from the online marketplace Redbubble. The removal arises from a meritless complaint by the Trump re-election campaign. The cartoon constitutes speech protected by the First Amendment, and its removal misuses mechanisms designed to protect intellectual property to suppress protected speech.
On May 18, the Daily Kos reported that Redbubble removed products featuring Andersons cartoon The Trump Cult, based on allegations of trademark infringement from Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. The Trump Campaign has misused Redbubbles reporting mechanism to suppress political expression in the form of parody, critique, and satire protected by the First Amendment.
CBLDF and our coalition partners Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, American Library Association, Office For Intellectual Freedom, Authors Guild, Freedom to Read Foundation, National Coalition Against Censorship, and PEN America call upon Redbubble to reinstate Mr. Andersons product listings to affirm its commitment to its sellers and its own First Amendment rights.

Trump complains that having an accurate "this is not true" note added to his bullshit is him being "silenced". But when he actually silences an opponent, oh, no, that's fine.

(101,316 posts)President Donald Trump is poised to sign an executive order on social-media companies Thursday, escalating his war on Twitter Inc., although it remains unclear what it will entail.
A White House spokesperson confirmed the order late Wednesday, a day after Twitter issued its first fact-checking warning label to some of his tweets.
Twitter declined comment. Late Tuesday, a company spokesperson said it issued fact checks because Trumps tweets contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots. This decision is in line with the approach we shared earlier this month.
In a series of tweets Wednesday, Trump threatened to regulate or even close social-media platforms. Legal experts scoffed at the presidents ability to moderate social-media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook Inc. and Snap Inc.

Someone will explain to him, when he's been fed and burped, that he can't take it out on the bad Dorsey man after all, and they will compose a "presidential" tweet for him saying he has graciously decided to give the very nasty and unfair companies one last chance.
