CNN Center in Atlanta damaged during protests
Source: CNN
The front of CNN Center in Atlanta was the scene of violent protests on Friday evening that resulted in damage to the front of the building and inside.
The protests had started as peaceful earlier in the afternoon when crowds gathered in the city's famed Centennial Park. The protests were in response to the death of George Floyd, who was killed on May 25 in Minneapolis.
At around 6 p.m. ET, protesters began moving toward the front of the CNN Center, where police had gathered. Over the next few hours, the crowd swelled as SWAT was called in to help with crowd control.
By about 7 p.m. ET, protesters could be seen damaging CNN Center in downtown Atlanta, which is sandwiched between Philips Arena and Centennial Park.

WAGA Fox 5 Atlanta has a story about this too with details as captured from the station's helicopter: CNN Center heavily vandalized during Atlanta protest against death of George Floyd
Protests started around 3 p.m. when hundreds of people gathered around Centennial Olympic Park, located at Park Avenue W NW and marched to the Georgia State Capitol. Demonstrators then made their way to the CNN Center where there were a few brief confrontations with police.
At one point, a group of demonstrators surrounded an Atlanta police officer inside his patrol vehicle. Additional officers arrived and began to push protestors back away from the vehicle, which led to a number of scuffles between police and protestors and at least three arrests, according to Atlanta Police.

(1,568 posts)I wish we had a president that was capable of at least attempting to help bring some calm and healing, but sadly we got the moron who will likely say or do something to just make it worse.
Here's some recorded video of it. :/

(1,568 posts)It is a big target and sure way to get media attention. I'll be honest, the skateboard guy didn't really strike me as a Trump supporter, but who knows. I figured he was just the one doing it because he felt the police we less likely to shoot a white dude. At the time I was worried the goal of trying to break the other window was to make a larger entry so they could have a larger gap to rush. Thankfully I was wrong and that wasn't what happened.
This entire thing has me nervous. Too many people out there wanting this to escalate, and sadly one those people seems to be the president of the US.
Some national leadership sure would be nice.
