As race stands, Obama within reach of second term

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Five weeks to Election Day, President Barack Obama is within reach of the 270 electoral votes needed to win a second term. Republican Mitt Romney's path to victory is narrowing.

To overtake Obama, Romney would need to quickly gain the upper hand in nearly all of the nine states where he and Obama are competing the hardest.

Polls show the president with a steady lead in many of them as Romney looks to shift the dynamics of the race, starting with their first debate Wednesday in Denver.

"We'd rather be us than them," says Jennifer Psaki, an Obama spokeswoman.

considering there are at least 50 threads a day about some inconsequential items every day. Are you worried about too much bandwidth being used.

Obama Wins!

Be proud and shout it from the rooftops!

the few voters Mitt has will flee and we can win a landslide like 1964 the last time the far right infiltrated the general election

If we take it as a done deal and don't get out the vote, he could lose. It's happened with Dems before.

Why is every bit of good polling news greeted with this! And the poster above pointed out that we can use Obama's leads to help down ticket. That was not "complacent." The idea Obama is "winning" is something we should run with and shout to the rooftops all day - it collects the idea it's inevitable and those voters who just want to vote for the winner.

In 1980, Carter conceded too early and it hurt the house races out west.

And in 1980 Carter and Kennedy did not combine. Carter could have won in 1980 with more postiive talk from democrats.
LBJ could have been reelected in 1968 regardless of the war, both before and after RFK if we only begged him to run.
Defeatism makes loses.

Al Gore could have prevailed had the party united (including Clinton's if they were shown some love) and easily win in 2000 instead of having it stolen.
Had Al and Bill yelled from the roof that NO they are not the same as the republicans, day in day out, maybe Nader wouldn't have won 100,000 votes in NH and caused Gore to lose those 4 electoral votes that would have given him 270 WITHOUT FLORIDA

And Al and the democrats should have been on the internet immediately naming the felons in the miami dade county as having been Tom Delay's henchmen illegally crossing state lines solely to interupt a recount that never happened despite what James Baker kept yapping.

Why were we silent? Al Gore after all used his power to not invent the internet, but get it going, yet the dems were silent on the internet in 2000,but the republicans were active
Why should we shut up now?

We were told to shut up and we let Dan Rather and Martha Mapes get railroaded into something that never was proven to be false, and the info itself 100% true, yet the classic news station reporting died when Dan and Martha were fired and people shut up and did not do anything

Run up the score, shout it from the roof, and more people than ever will vote, AND MORE IMPORTANT HAVE THEIR VOTE COUNT FOR WHOM THEY VOTED FOR in the first place.

Being silent is what the republicans want.
After all, any emotion is wrong to them. Why didn't people fight back in 2004, after the single candidate with the most fire in his belly was ethusiasticly cheering, why did democrats run from Howard Dean to someone no one wanted in the first place?
Dean had given us a reason to vote FOR someone. So of course no one backed him that he was enthusiastic and wow, he screamed
WE SHOULD ALL BE SCREAMING ENTHUSIASTICALLY.
Karl Rove wins when we are timid.
Obama beat Karl Rove in 2008 because voters were not timid, and no one is complacent.
It is the exact opposite.

This is 1964 all over again- the single biggest landslide of the time with a radical rightwing extremist on the republican ticket for both president/vice president

Start banging the pots, yell from the roofs, honk your horns
vote and then drive anyone you know who can't to the polls
Better yet- VOTE EARLY the polls are already open in a lot of states, get those absenttee ballots to anyone who needs them

and run the score up

The President has said time and time again this election is about a choice. Yet we like pundits focus on him as the end all be all. When we do this we forget his strengths and those of al of us to empathize with others, to organize and to work for our ideals. Barrack and Michelle are inspiring , but they inspire us with their expression of democratic ideas, many of which used to be just considered American and belong to neither party. As the extremely wealthy powerful have taken complete control of republicans ,even corrupting conservative ideology for their power lust, they have abandoned many of our American ideas especially responsibility to ourselves and our neighbors and empathy; so necessary in helping others and fixing problems.
I truly love President Obama and Michelle for what they say and do. But I place my faith in the values we share, and our love for the people of America and around the world. George Lakoff explains it best- our values of empathy and responsibility. We must use these values to produce necessary progressive change. We cannot let adoration for one or two political figures be our cause but must work hard in every battle to achieve our ends.
If we fail to bring this choice for the country down the ticket especially in the House of Representatives, we will suffer much more obstructionism and continued attempts to blame the President and future democratic candidates for deterioration of the economy.Let's broaden our focus and grab every target of opportunity and start working to elect more and more democrats in the House immediately. In Ohio I work to elect Obama, Sherrod Brown, Neuhardt , Connor, Winburn, etc. Let us all get behind al the democrars where ever we can. This is our time, this is our vision. Let us summon more energy and sacrifice now for our cause.
