Florida gov blames coronavirus rise on 'overwhelmingly Hispanic' workers
Source: New York Post
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pointed to clusters of overwhelmingly Hispanic day laborers and agriculture workers driving the states recent coronavirus spike but farmworkers and industry associations argue that resources and testing came too late to those communities, according to new reports.
Some of these guys go to work in a school bus, and they are all just packed there like sardines, going across Palm Beach County or some of these other places, and theres all these opportunities to have transmission, DeSantis said during a press conference in Tallahassee.
Florida on Thursday reported the largest single-day spike in coronavirus cases since the pandemic started.
The number of new infections in the Sunshine State soared to 3,207 dwarfing its own previous highest single-day increase of 2,783 on Tuesday.
The record-high illness rate comes as some parts of the state report zero available ICU beds, and as scientists predict Florida has all the markings to become the new epicenter for the pandemic.

Florida Governor Ron de Santis and Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez during their 2018 campaign.
Nuñez was part of a massive de Santis effort to woo Cuban-Americans in 2018 - but amid 90,000 Covid cases and mounting, his tune has changed.

(111,261 posts)That bigot is never going to look at how low wage workers are treated, bigots don't do observation, they do stereotyping, prejudice, and baiting.
This is a virus. It doesn't respect race, age, bank account, or anything else. It does spread rapidly where people are crowded together and when people have nutritional deficiencies because their wages are too low to support them properly.
It will also spread to the wealthy in their gated housing developments. Count on that.

(17,387 posts)...just blame a minority or immigrant. If that doesn't get you where you need to go, then blame women, the media and abortion. It is alll about finding a scapegoat. Lyndon Johnson, a white Southerner, hit the nail on the head:
LBJ was no angel - but he was nothing if not very smart and observant.
It's even truer now than it was then I think.

(854 posts)Go ahead and isolate the Hispanic workers in the state. The cries of grievance from the elite for the missing servers, house staff, farm workers or other menial jobs will begin in 1...2...3 minutes. Not to mention the hospital staff, docs, retailers, accountants, lawyers, tech workers, gov't workers or any other occupation that people of Hispanic descent hold. I won't say important because they are all important and integral to the state's economy. I pegged this ass as a piece of work well before he got elected gov. He hasn't disappointed.
(And why does it always seem that these fools seem to forget that the first non-Native American settlers in their states, including TX, LA, NM, AZ, CA and others, were of Hispanic origin? It's like a 200 yr old grievance amongst the, now "white" population. St. Augustine was one the earliest European settlements in U.S.)
