FedEx branding removed from NASCAR car to promote National Civil Rights Museum
Source: The Hill
The branding sponsored by FedEx on the hood of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlins car was replaced with a logo of the National Civil Rights Museum on Monday amid ongoing protests against racial injustice and police inequality.
Hamlins No. 11 car usually is painted with the FedEX logo and colors but has been refinished with black paint to emphasize the museums logo during the Talladega Superspeedway race in Alabama.
"@FedEx has chosen to remove all of their branding and traditional colors, with this week's theme being to listen and learn as they spotlight the @NCRMuseum," tweeted Joe Gibbs Racing, the team that Hamlin races for.
FedEx also announced that it would donate $500,000 to the museum, which is based at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis where Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated. The companys headquarters is also based in the Tennessee city.

(34,109 posts)I have thought there was a real change in the air but it has always been smaller than hoped or brief. This time seems different, it is not just individuals gathering to cry out but corporations as well. While I always assume it is for profit I have to admit I don't really care anymore as long as they continue to support this. It is far too important to write them off for a motive I do not support if they are supporting a movement that has been trying my whole life to make good things happen.

(4,224 posts)Seeing these young people energized gives me great hope. The majority of them do not seem to have the prejudices that many in my baby boomer generation suffer from. Hopefully they will get out to vote on November 3rd!

(9,893 posts)Too much is symbolic. Take down a statue. Retire Aunt Jemima. Take out some full page ads in the NYT. Regulate some speech. None of this actually changes attitudes. For the better.

(21,148 posts)They have this bus where it has a white driver model who tells you in a cruel tone of voice to go to the back of the bus n word. My husband who is white was really upset after experiencing that. And seeing the room MLK Jr stayed and then going out on the balcony where he was shot was unnerving.
Memphis was a strange trip, this museum, Beale Street, then Graceland made it unforgettable.

(1,686 posts)Takes equal opportunity seriously, so Im not surprised to see them make this move. Fred Smith, who is the CEO and founder of Fedex, is a Viet Nam silver star combat veteran who is a natural leader that leads with decency and compassion, unlike that bone spurs draft dodging natural born fuck up that one can count on to always do the wrong thing as he rules with hate and selfishness.
