Congressional Black Caucus chair Karen Bass being vetted to be Biden running mate
Source: CBS News
Congresswoman Karen Bass, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, is undergoing vetting as a candidate to be Joe Biden's running mate, CBS News has learned according to sources familiar with the process.
The five-term congresswoman represents Los Angeles and endorsed Biden for president in mid-March.
It is not immediately clear where Bass stands in the vetting process but her name has been floated for consideration by powerful Democrats like House Majority Whip James Clyburn. "Karen Bass would be a big plus
she is a great person in my mind, I work with her every day," Clyburn told CNN in June when asked about Biden's vetting process.
Clyburn specifically cited her previous leadership experience as speaker of the California Assembly, the first African-American woman to lead the chamber, as fitting preparation for the White House.

(72 posts)I'm not sure that level of experience is enough for someone with pretty good odds of being our 47th President.

(113,306 posts)Five House terms=10 years in the lower chamber. Had Bass spent 10 years in the Senate, I'd possibly have a different view.

(23,099 posts)Deming also has the positive of representing mid-FL, a red area that she could possibly swing blue. So that's my pitch for Deming, plus she's a really good speaker & writer. I do like Harris & think she brings a ton to the table, and would be happy to have her as VP, even though I now think Deming might be a better choice?

(12,536 posts)I wouldnt be sad at a pick of Kamala, but i'd LOVE someone fairly well known who could possibly bring a battleground state. Thats a huge factor.

(13,041 posts)qualified IMO. My pick is Kamala of course. I'd be OK w/ Susan Rice but i'm afraid the Benghazi thing will come back to haunt us. Plus the fact her son is an outspoken ProTrumper at Stanford. Sounds like the kid has some serious identity issues. I'm so glad my kids are all liberal. I've told them i'd disown them if they were trumpers .

(10,500 posts)We shouldn't go along with the GOP's shameful nonsense.
Also, Benghazi didn't really hit hard by Election Day the way the fake email scandal did, at least not after HRC destroyed the Benghazi committee.

(1,204 posts)I definitely like Karen Bass because she is a fighter and great campaigner.
Kamala, Susan Rice and Val Demings are also great choices and while each would make a highly respected President, I feel Karen and/or Kamala are needed at this time for their campaigning skills.
