EXCLUSIVE: Feds About To Bail On Supporting COVID Testing Sites In Texas And Other States

Source: TPM

The Trump administration is ending funding and support for local COVID-19 testing sites around the country this month, as cases and hospitalizations are skyrocketing in many states.

The federal government will stop providing money and support for 13 sites across five states which were originally set up in the first months of the pandemic to speed up testing at the local level.

Local officials and public health experts expressed a mixture of frustration, resignation, and horror at the decision to let federal support lapse.

Texas will be particularly hard hit by the decision. The federal government gives much-needed testing kits and laboratory access to seven testing sites around Texas. But in the state, which is seeing new peaks in cases, people still face long lines for testing that continues to fail to meet overwhelming demand.

Bet they did it all over the state since the states' testing numbers dropped 3% in that timeframe (while cases went up 88%). I fucking hate typhoid Donnie

Which his own experts promote, and its been shown to reduce spreading, his position isn't one he will ever win. More people will vote against him for doing this now. HE will also stop any updates on cases and deaths, which he already has some intentionally not including all in their counting. I think the backlash against him doing this with a deadly active pandemic attacking will only hurt himself and the Republican Party , and insuring trump and the GOP lose all controls in our government. But trump could tomorrow from his failing mental state claim he never said it. trump's failing so badly with everything , corruption, and his lying , makes it very ,very unlikely he even has a chance at this point.

and passionately human leaders like JFK, MLK, and Bobby Kennedy get shot and killed in America, but sociopaths like this bastard survive the self-serving, life harming and life ending damage they cause to American people unscathed?

Seriously!

Ya know, so 32 year olds that made slightly too much money the year before they were fired after having a health crisis are told to punt again and again and again when they apply for Medicaid in Texas. Then go on to die in their sleep, because they only received emergency medical treatment and never got to the cause of their illness. Arthur had to die, because republican politicians in the state wouldn’t accept federal money from the congressional mandate under Obama.

Then there’s the great many Texans with disabilities who fall into a healthcare gap. Again, gov abbott can’t seem to identify with those constituents’ needs, because Obama. There’s an Elizabeth here who’s educated me on how the system in Texas keeps her locked in a set of hard choices that leaves her without access to proper medical care and an unclear path towards a financially secure life.

Shopping healthcare plans on the exchange is a joke - a bunch of junk plans in many areas. Be diagnosed with cancer at the time your Cobra coverage is running out and a year before you qualify for Medicare? Well, in Texas you’ll experience a whole new existential crisis when you get to select between plans that are carved narrowly for never heard of hospital groups, etc. Enter into cancer treatment underinsured all so abbott, cruz, and cornyn could please their corporate donors and dog whistle to fox gnus viewers. My mother had to deal with this, and had to take university classes to maintain a decent level of coverage through student insurance. She was a lucky one who could make this work and survived.

My point is that Texas was already sick before the coronavirus hit. Uninsured and underinsured Texans have been kept dying, sick, and financially desperate to be included in modern healthcare. GOP politicians want more to suffer for their failed policies and failed humanity. They haven’t learned how wrong they’ve been about healthcare, because they’re all about putting on a racist, greedy, and small-minded show.

How many more Texans will die uninsured or underinsured? How many will die untested and untreated for COVID-19? Is the tRump-republican governor even serious about corralling the pandemic? Or is it going to be more of the same? After all, we well know that the man in the WH really doesn’t care if Americans live or die.

Texas used to be a blue state in the 80's with Gov. Richards.

What happened since?

I know that Faux Snooze has a lot to do with this,
but are people really that brainwashed?

Ugh, I might actually have to post my own OP about the matter.

Chicanery, malfeasance, bad internet, gerrymandering, religion abuse, election suppression, and gifts to good old boy/Bork types in the Cloakroom are parts of the stew that made Texas seem like an impenetrable red zone

But all that can only fail for so long, before reasonable people in the middle start to get wise. Texas has always been some shade of purple despite what overly available rw media has been yelling at folks.
