(69 posts)At least we can say there wasn't a horrible act of racism involved.
It is unfortunate that this story got elevated as fast as it did, and everyone jumped in to assume the worst.

(3,051 posts)It was just a loop tied on all the ropes on the garage doors to make it easy to pull the ropes.
It's on all the garage doors, apparently.
EarthFirst
(2,900 posts)As I read it: fashioned like a noose... implies that a rope pull was tied into a noose.
Clarification that these rope pulls have loops in them would have been better clarified in their statement.
Perhaps I jumped judgement...

(13,041 posts)this. Bubba Wallace was able to convince NASCAR to remove confederate flags and work to diversify its sport, and also take a firm stance against bigotry & racism, knowing it would receive backlash from a large group of its fans. Its management had to grapple with the future of the sport and how it wanted to be perceived. I felt it was a very hard decision. I'm glad it stuck to its guns and collectively backed its only black driver on the issue knowing it was the right thing to do.

(13,598 posts)The story did seem to get a lot of wind behind it, though, because of the well-justified atmosphere of suspicion today.

(13,041 posts)to pull the garage door open (as most if not all garages have), and every garage had it, why all of a sudden would someone think it was strange and be compelled to then call the authorities? Where's the dang noose-shaped rope been all this time?
Also, the photos look a bit sketchy to me. My gut feeling is there's much more to this than what's been revealed.
oldsoftie
(12,536 posts)And since Wallace never even saw it himself, it never would have even been a problem had NASCAR officials not rushed to tell him it was there. They could've realized it was old & simply removed it without causing all the problems & wasting the FBIs money.
onetexan
(13,041 posts)Noose being an existing thing, &that both the FBI & NASCAR do not think this was a non-incident. I get the feeling theres alot more to this story & we need to stay tuned. I also dont discount the notion the video could have been doctored.

(32,626 posts)Was it on the garage door after it was in the locker?

Thats all it would have taken. Unless the NASCAR PR machine overruled.

They were scared of blow back.
If someone came forward and said "Um, there's a loop on all our garage doors and have been for years. I think someone misconstrued this" -- the entire media and the NASCAR brass would have jumped them and called them racist.

(35,309 posts)Can't say a simple and easy truth because ...
The rest is all "hey, it was false and deceptive, as it turns out, but it got us power and our goals, so Truth through falsehood is a winning and virtuous path!"
I sort of still like the truth and the freedom of being able to speak. Even truth. Even to power.
I wonder if any of that particular crew had been to Talladega since the garage door pulls were put in place.

(12,536 posts)I'm so used to pointing out stuff on FB & i get the same reaction there; usually from trump fans but even others. Even if i dont like the truth, we HAVE to look for it.
Here's the latest one i had to bust; Biden's great grandfather fought for the Confederacy & owned slaves. There's even a picture & name. Give it time & I bet you'll see it pop up somewhere. The sadder thing is, you prove its not true & they keep the post up anyway!!

(3,051 posts)It's because people didn't want the heat for being the one who spoke up.
They all looked around, saw the loops on their garages, and said "I ain't saying nothing."
You know the internet mob would try to destroy them.

(32,626 posts)a piece of rope hanging like that is a noose? No one. Whoever put this story out, needs to clean it up. Right now it's all bullshit.

(5,170 posts)First Kyle Larson, a top tier driver with Ganassi Racing, lost his job due to uttering the n-word when he thought he was off mike and wasn't, then the banning of the KKKonfederate flag just a couple weeks ago, and then this noose situation. All through this, Bubba Wallace has been the focal point of the news coverage, and he has handled it well.

(5,399 posts)Someone saw Bubba in the garage and saw the loop hanging there and freaked out. As to why they involved the FBI it is probably because no one would have believed an internal NASCAR investigation.
MichMan
(11,929 posts)The only people in the garage with the current restrictions are race team members, and track staff (including security.) The drivers are transported on golf carts from their motorhome lot to pit road where the cars are staged before the race. Wallace, therefore did not ever see the so called "noose"
I'll take that bet, however I agree with you regarding the FBI
