Trump campaign sues Nevada over expanded mail-in voting
Source: The Hill
The Trump campaign late Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Nevada over a law aimed at expanding mail-in voting before the November general election, saying it and changes to election procedures make "voter fraud and other ineligible voting inevitable.
The lawsuit, obtained by The Nevada Independent, was filed against Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske amid Trumps latest attempts to discredit mail-in voting in states with Democratic governors.
The RNC has a vital interest in protecting the ability of Republican voters to cast, and Republican candidates to receive, effective votes in Nevada elections and elsewhere, the suit says, referring to the Republican National Committee, which joined in the legal action along with the Nevada Republican Party. Major or hasty changes confuse voters, undermine confidence in the electoral process, and create incentive to remain away from the polls.

(70,501 posts)President Donald Trump plans to sue to stop Nevada from issuing mailed ballots to all active voters, he announced at a White House briefing on Monday.
Trump had already threatened legal action earlier in the day, suggesting mailed ballots would make it impossible for Republicans to win there in the November general election. Nevada state lawmakers approved legislation on Sunday to automatically send mail-in ballots to voters. Gov. Stephen Sisolak of Nevada, a Democrat, is expected to sign the bill into law. Trump said he planned to have the lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The president has aggressively advocated for in-person voting in recent months even as state-level election officials move to expand mail-in voting amid the nationwide outbreak of coronavirus, which many fear could be easily spread at polling places. He stopped short of saying he would issue an executive order in response to the push for more mail-in voting, though he said: I have the right to do it. We havent gotten there yet. Well see what happens.

But Republican political operatives have embraced vote-by-mail, and a recent study found that it does not benefit one party over another.

This suit will be laughed out of court. I'm pretty sure that voting and how people vote in Nevada has already
been covered by the state's Constitution and its laws.

(7,431 posts)Weak sauce from a weak party. If the GOP doesn't like what's happening, then they can VOTE to prevent it from happening. We are presumed to be a nation that votes for change. That's what we'll do.

(2,605 posts)So now he thinks he can pick which state can have mail in ballots, and which cannot. Florida is OK, but Nevada is not. This is beginning to look like a comedy sketch
This so called Administration has been dark comedy since day one. Hell Trump as president was already the punchline for a a lot of jokes in the 90s.

(9,263 posts)the only way to challenge voting issues is if its a discrimination thing and having mail in voting is far from that.

(36,048 posts)This campaign is simply bullying a state to see if it can get away with it elsewhere. Can't wait to see what 45's stupid lawyers say.
The RNC has no interest that supercedes the interests of any sovereign state. What horseshit.

(16,184 posts)You would think he would see this as a way to get more people to vote for him. The fact that he doesn't tells us all we need to know about more people voting means fewer Republicans. Mail in voting for all states!!
