China imposes sanctions on US senators over Hong Kong

Source: BBC

The sanctions come in response to a decision by the US to sanction 11 Chinese officials and allies in Hong Kong for curtailing political freedoms.

Among those targeted by China were Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and Kenneth Roth, the executive director of charity Human Rights Watch.

China did not target any officials from the Trump administration.

Also on the list were Senators Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley and Pat Toomey and Representative Chris Smith - all Republicans - as well as other individuals from non-profit organisations and rights groups.

Did China just think "Trump and his gang will be gone in a few months - what's the point in sanctioning them? Pick people who will still be around next year."

Barr is not on the list and they are imposing sanctions on people who were critical of China using aggressive tactics against pro-democracy supporters.

The article says "US officials targeted by China on Monday are among those who have publicly criticised China for its increasingly aggressive tactics in Hong Kong" -- Has anyone in the Trump administration spoken out against what China is doing in Hong Kong? I admit I haven't followed this closely...

I know. The OP seemed to be wondering why ("Did China just think "Trump and his gang will be gone in a few months - what's the point in sanctioning them?&quot , so I pointed out the article said they had targeted people who has specifically criticized them over HK, so maybe the reason why was that nobody in the Trump administration did that.

so it is truly hypocritical of these dumb GOP senators to be condemning China. The Chinese can see right thru their bluff.
