A 19-Year-Old Who Blackmailed a Girl for Nudes Just Won a Democratic Primary in Kansas
Source: Vice
A 19-year-old who admitted to blackmailing a girl for nude photographs and viciously bullying girls in middle school won a Democratic primary for a seat in the Kansas state House of Representatives. One of the women even says the candidate drove her to attempt suicide.
Aaron Coleman, a community college student and dishwasher, defeated the incumbent Stan Frownfelter by just 14 votes on Monday. Although Frownfelter pledged to run as a write-in candidate on Tuesday and has the support of Democratic leadership in the state no Republican has filed to run in the district.
The young woman who says she attempted suicide after Colemans abuse told the Kansas City Star that he started bullying her in the sixth grade. Coleman was calling me fat, telling me to kill myself, like Im never going to find anyone, like Im worthless, just downgrading me every day. She recalled him, in one message, calling her a whale and urging her to go on a diet and get braces.
In social media posts seen by the Star, another woman said that Coleman harassed me for months, including relentlessly calling her familys home phone.

(34,107 posts)They are still calling it "the evil weed" on the floor. Both sides. While there is a possibility we might break the super majority I do not know how long it will take to get more Democrats in office and I am not even certain they would vote for legalizing weed. We will hold out until the rest of the country has had it for 25 years and still it will be hard. It is crazy but remember, this is the state that made the Airlines pick up the alcoholic drinks from their passengers as they flew overhead.

Oh well. We can pass most things in Arizona by ballot measure so hopefully it will be legalized here this year.
Looking him up it appears he supported policies other than cannabis legalization.

In 1986, LaRouche-ites Mark Fairchild and Janice A. Hart won the Democratic primaries for lieutenant governor and secretary of state.
Great Aunt Lena voted for the Republicans in both GE races.
I think, she'd vote for whomever had the best chance of beating him - even if it were a Republican

(6,011 posts)Thompson was relatively popular, and those "LaRouchies", running as Democrats, threw a monkey wrench into the 1986 election.
Nobody liked the "LaRouchies", especially Adlai Stevenson III, who was the Dem running for Gov. Those were the days of "Straight Ticket" voting here in IL. Adlai didn't want to run on the same ticket as the "LaRouchies". He tried a 3rd party gambit, but Thompson won.
Side note: Thompson passed away a week ago. RIP

I should have listened to her warning way back when she told me this story. Instead, I projected my own good nature onto her. That was a mistake. Some people are just born evil. My ex was, Donald Trump was, and it sounds like Aaron Coleman was born that way too. I would advise everyone to heed Holly OReillys warning about this young man.

Kansas Democrats are in the astonishing position of opposing their own partys nominee for a Wyandotte County seat in the state Legislature this November.
Lets hope they get a lot of help in making this happen.
Mondays official results from the Aug. 4 Democratic primary election gave a 14-vote win to embattled 19-year-old Aaron Coleman who has acknowledged bullying, revenge porn and blackmail of girls in middle school some five years ago, as well as recent remarks cheering the thought of Republicans dying of COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the respected Democratic incumbent who lost to Coleman, state Rep. Stan Frownfelter, announced he is mounting a write-in campaign against the teenager in the November general election.
. . .
Patrick R. Miller, University of Kansas associate professor of political science, notes: Across all statewide and congressional elections 2016-2018, Democrats won this district by an average of 23 points over Republicans. Its a solidly blue Obama-Davis-Clinton-Kelly district that even Jerry Moran lost by about 15 points in 2016. So, Democrats do have a healthy cushion here, and its conceivable that they could divide their vote and still prevail over any Republican write-in.

(28,463 posts)It's interesting that there was no Republican running. I've heard of campaigns where Dems have changed their party registration to Republican so they could run against Republicans in primaries, win, and move the local government to the left. I gotta wonder if this guy is a disguised Republican. Maybe a Libertarian.
But beyond that: dude is 19. I want to hear the transformation story of how he's grown up from a troubled teen five years ago to a stable teen now. Was he saved by Jesus? Did he come out? Is he on antipsychotic medicines? I do believe people can change, and people do change a lot from 14 to 19, but this kid's behavior was way OTT. My gut says he isn't one of us.

Besides, it's unlikely the Republican Party in Kansas would try and get someone like this in the primary
Kansas has no sore-loser law.
It would be a waste of time and energy to spend money and hours on this guy
The guy he beat is running as a write-in candidate
Every political party has losers and opportunists in them.
During the 70's, 80's and part of the 90's the Democratic Party had the LaRouchies

He will have no opponent in November. This is really a shame. I thought maybe this was a seat that only fringe candidates run in because it's a vanity candidacy. No the seat is not even competitive. What's the matter Kansas Dems?

I don't know about the ethics of jailing someone who has just a kid himself, but considering he blackmailed her and it was non-consensual, he definitely should have faced some serious consequences and should NOT be getting elected to public office. This is disgraceful.

(101,311 posts)Aaron Coleman said on Twitter Sunday that hes abandoning his campaign. Earlier this month, he narrowly defeated veteran Rep. Stan Frownfelter in the Democratic primary in their Kansas City, Kansas district. Heather Scanlon, chief of staff to House Minority Leader Tom Sawyer of Wichita, said there was a sense of relief that Coleman was ending his campaign.
Local Democratic party officials will choose Colemans replacement.
