15 Minnesotans catch coronavirus at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Fifteen Minnesota residents have contracted the coronavirus after being exposed during the 10-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, Minnesota health officials said Friday, warning that they expect the number to grow.

One patient was hospitalized as of Friday, said Kris Ehresmann, infectious disease director at the Minnesota Department of Health. The first Sturgis-linked case was reported Thursday, she said, while the 14 others were added Friday.

“We’re expecting that we’re going to see many more cases associated with Sturgis," Ehresmann said during a briefing for reporters. "Thousands of people attended that event, and so it's very likely that we'll see more transmission. Obviously it takes a while for people to develop symptoms and get tested and for us to get those results.”

The Sturgis rally, which ended Sunday, brought hundreds of thousands of people to western South Dakota. The Minnesota announcement followed a warning Thursday from South Dakota Department of Health officials that a number of people who attended the rally had come down with the COVID-19 virus, including some from out of state. They did not give an exact number of attendees who tested positive, but said it was less than 25.

They deserve whatever happens for deliberately spreading a deadly virus. I’m tired of staying at home, too, but people like this are just delaying getting the virus under control, and I have no sympathy.

All the poor innocents they infected in their travels home.
And for their friends and loved ones back in Minnesota.

This didn’t have to happen.

beyond the 15 people in Minnesota and will spread to other states as well.

This didn't have to happen if we had national leadership on the control of Covid-19.

It's spread beyond what contact tracers can find, and many contacts will have been forgotten. I'm sure CDC (if there is anyone left) will watch for outbreaks along the roads from Sturgis.

... The problem is they were allowed to leave before a 2-week quarantine was over.

I feel like a giant a-hole for thinking this, but it's beginning to look like we're in a war with the virus, and losing. China, Italy, they seemed to know how to defeat it, however lousy the cure. I'm starting to think we're going to have to forcibly quarantine the attendees at large parties like Sturgis. Otherwise, it will not leave.

Unless, of course, a miracle vaccine is found, proven, manufactured, and made available to average people.

Until then, my tennis can wait.

ZERO sympathy for these clowns. Hope no innocent progressives suffer as a result of their irresponsible lock-step following of their cult leader.

This nation is at a crossroads. They have vilified progressives, intellectuals, latte' sipping types (which there are just as many them latte sippers" with their inbreds cult as any other group of people), and every other derogatory name they have attached to those of us with a brain; fuck them. We need to start calling out stupidity. We need to start calling out just why this country is suffering 170K+ and climbing who die from this needless death. These dumb fucks are the reason why. These dumb fucks that refuse to wear a mask, refuse to safe distant, refuse to suspend their gatherings with other dumb fucks: THEY are the reason we are dealing with this pandemic in the absolute worst way. Why we are making limited progress in ridding the country of this plague.

Of course the draft dodging coward con artist is no help at all.....but these dumb fucks are the tools that keep the virus alive and hungry in this country. They need to be exposed and shamed to death.

I would wish them maybe a life of COVID late effects of heart or lung problems. Something to remind them of how flipping stupid they are. Have them be poster people for getting a vaccine when available. Similar to the (Incredibly effective ) anti-smoking ads (seen in NY state).

Yes, I too am SICK TO DEATH of feeling silly for eating right, being literate and discerning and caring about my fellow human. And the environment. Feeling like I have to apologize for doing the right thing and taking the time to educate myself about voting and following COVID protocols. About not being able to have a bumper sticker or yard sign for fear of vandalism and property damage.

WE are the silent majority and WE need to stand up and be heard. So vote out ALL the turds on November turd...sorry! Third.

Third!

Betcha they will tally 25% of attendees are positive when all is said and done.

They partied, wore themselves out, then rode home. This all taxed their bodies to the fullest extent.

Then, the virus took over their compromised bodies and had it’s own little party.

And so on
And so on
And so on

What fun 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

22. Numerous cases of COVID-19 being traced to Sturgis motorcycle rally

Number of riders exposed at popular bars that may have been hot spots unknown

South Dakota health officials warned August 20 that a number of people who attended the 10-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this month, including some who came from out of state, have come down with COVID-19.

Department of Health officials did not give an exact number of rallygoers who tested positive, but they said it was under 25.

The rally, which ended August 16, brought hundreds of thousands of people from far and wide to the city in the western part of the state. Even before it kicked off, some locals and officials expressed concern that COVID-19 could spread rapidly at the rally and that it would be hard to track rallygoers who got infected before heading home.

The state’s health department has received reports from other states that people who traveled from the rally have tested positive, state epidemiologist Josh Clayton said.
