Wisconsin breaks single-day record of new coronavirus cases
Source: CBS News
New coronavirus cases are rising across the country. A dangerous situation in Wisconsin is getting close to becoming out of control, with the state becoming one of the nation's largest coronavirus hot spots.
The state broke a single-day record of new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 3,132, CBS affiliate WDJT reported. That's the first time the state ever surpassed the 3,000 mark, according to health officials.
There are long lines to get tested and doctors are scrambling to find enough hospital beds.
The ThedaCare health care system in northeast Wisconsin says it has seen about a 500% increase in hospitalizations. More than 200 of its staffers are out sick or in quarantine due to the virus.

(10,168 posts)Is trying to drive the final nail in our coffin here, but you know what? Theyre not going to win. The hangover Koch Teabaggers and the Trumpers dont even know that theyve already lost Wisconsin.
But theyre about to find out on Nov.3.
These POS, all of them, last week were in court trying to overturn Gov. Evers mask mandate, if you can believe it! Its insane.
The ThedaCare hospital thats the Covid hub is one block from our house. Were terrified at our house and not going out anywhere. Our ballots are in and tracked, all for Biden/Harris, all three of us straight Dem ticket.

(63,912 posts)My husband, a native Badger from Kenosha, and I are following what is going on in your home state right now very closely. We have dear friends in Door County, strong outspoken Dems, who assure us they are doing well. They live in the woods in DC and are safe. Their beautiful home and its environs are hanging in the balance and we pray for their continued health and safety.
I miss our yearly vacation in Door County, esp. listening to the wind in the big trees surrounding our summer place there and going to the concerts, the wonderful symphony played by members of the Chicago Symphony. I will always recall it as a place of refuge, peaceful, and full of good friends who share our beliefs.
Best wishes to you and your family.

Note that Wisconsin is the 3rd hottest hotspot in the U.S in daily new cases PER CAPITA, 7 day moving average. (North Dakota and South Dakota are #1 and #2 in that metric)
Gov. Tony Evers issued an emergency order Tuesday limiting public indoor gatherings to 25% occupancy after Wisconsin became one of the nations COVID hotspots.
The order applies to any gathering open to the public including stores, restaurants, bars, other businesses, and spaces with ticketed events. It also applies to indoor, non-religious funerals, weddings and receptions that are open to the public.
There are some spaces that are exempt from the order like colleges and universities, child care settings, health care and public health operations, religious events, political events and more.
The changes will take effect at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, and will remain in place until Nov. 6.
On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported an increase of 2,020 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 18 new deaths. The seven-day average of new daily COVID-19 cases is 2,346 up from 836 one month ago.

50 states' minicharts "map" page, alternative to the NY Times from John Hopkins University
The below "map" of the 50 states' minicharts (which are scaled by daily new cases PER CAPITA), is from the John Hopkins U. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/new-cases-50-states -- at that page you can click on individual states on the "map". Showing 3-day moving average of new cases. I prefer the nytimes' charts which are 7 day moving averages)
