Trump's Struggles Ripple Across the Sun Belt, Endangering G.O.P. Stronghold

Source: New York Times

PHOENIX — Cindy Bishop is the sort of voter who has some Republicans bracing for a wipeout next month.

Standing inside her garage, shielded from the 102-degree desert heat, Ms. Bishop, a 61-year-old medical professional, said she voted for Mr. Trump four years ago because “he wasn’t a politician.” But then, she said, “I got a taste of him and I’m like, ‘God, he’s disrespectful’ — there’s so much about him I don’t like.” She is now leaning toward Joseph R. Biden Jr.

The inflammatory behavior that has alienated voters beyond his base has long posed the most significant impediment to Mr. Trump’s re-election. But one week after he rampaged through the first presidential debate and then was hospitalized with the coronavirus, only to keep minimizing the disease as it spread through his White House, the president’s conduct is not only undermining his own campaign but threatening his entire party.

New polls show Mr. Trump’s support is collapsing nationally, as he alienates women, seniors and suburbanites. He is trailing not just in must-win battlegrounds but according to private G.O.P. surveys, he is repelling independents to the point where Mr. Biden has drawn closer in solidly red states, including Montana, Kansas and Missouri, people briefed on the data said.

I think this is part and parcel of the same anti-expertise anti-intellectualism that has people rejecting the analysis of medical experts and economists and climate scientists and on and on...

Give me a president who has had experience working in government, knows how it works, and knows and respects the Constitution. A president who defers to the advice of experts in fields in which he isn't entirely familiar, while at the same time brings to the table a critical mind, a knowledge of history, a deep sense of compassion and empathy, and a love for the best aspects of the American experiment.

Clearly Trump was never any of these.

Give me a president who, in addition to everything i listed, is also a consummate politician: an FDR, a JFK, a Bill Clinton, an Al Gore, a Hillary Clinton.

Come November, give me Joe Biden in a landslide.

have no stomach for hearing from regretful trump voters, nor do I believe a single "heartfelt" thing they say. Fuck 'em!

If I was looking for someone to paint my house, I wouldn't pick a person who wasn't a house painter!

If I was on a hiring committee at work, we would immediately reject a person who had no experience whatsoever.

If I had to have some surgery done, I wouldn't insist on someone who isn't a surgeon!

When we elect someone who is not a politician to the highest office in the land, THIS is what we get!

8. "he wasn't a politician" OK, but did she make ANY attempt to find out what he WAS?

Half an hour with Google & she could have read about how he ripped off dozens of condo buyers in FL, taking their money & building nothing. And how he then did the same thing in Baja CA. And how he's refused to pay hundreds of contractors for the work they did for him.

Did she do even a little bit of research to discover what he's like & then said "Trump is a lying con artist who has scammed & ripped off hundreds of hard-working Americans like me, I want him to be president!"

Willful ignorance may be the death of us all.

when the voters flock out in droves, to vote this POS out of the WH. The Senate too, is going to change hands and finally, finally we'll be free of the nightmare that we've all been under since 2017, Jan.

Thank god. Vote!
