McConnell sets up votes on narrow coronavirus relief proposal

Source: Politico

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Saturday that the Senate will hold two votes next week on a half-trillion-dollar coronavirus relief package, even as the chances of Congress approving a broader deal before the election remain slim.

The Senate will vote Tuesday on additional money for the Paycheck Protection Program and Wednesday on the rest of the package. Democrats have already dismissed the GOP approach as inadequate, and are not expected to support the proposals.

“Speaker Pelosi keeps saying she feels ‘nothing’ is better than ‘something’ and clinging to far-left demands that are designed to kill any hope of a deal,” McConnell said Saturday. “Working families have spent months waiting for Speaker Pelosi’s Marie Antoinette act to stop. They should not have to wait any longer.”

Next week's coronavirus relief proposal will be nearly identical to legislation Republicans attempted to pass in September, which included $300 in boosted federal weekly unemployment benefits through the end of December, as well money for testing and reopening schools.

Or atleast not the answer we need for long term recovery as most of the people would be better served by simply having jobs that actually paid enough to pay their bills and have enough left over to set aside for retirement.
No, what we really need for a good stimulus bill should be done by cutting defense spending by 2/3 and shifting the money into infrastructure spending like roads, dams and bridges as well as education and medical care for people as all of that would create a massive number of jobs.
Far more even than what spending the money on defense does.

And, it will never happen as long as Americans keep wanting to wave their d**ks at the world. Until you remove that overpowering urge, until you remove the grift and massive incomes being increased by pork, what you suggest will never come to pass. And, I have seen no indication from either party that such a thing is even being considered.

better and bring it down to a reasonable level.
What we need to do though is give them a gentle nudge to finally take the plunge and do it and one way they could do it is via pushing that they are the true party that is interested in controlling the federal budget better rather than the Republicans who like to waste taxpayer money.

but top brass doesn't see it as a 'waste of taxpayer money', and they have a stranglehold on both parties. Standing up to them is going to take some real chutzpah and finesse. Mostly chutzpah though...

is the part of the larger earlier bill that was the easiest part to steal money from. And they are too stupid to realize they just identified it for us.

They want it so badly they can taste it. That's why this is a priority because the GrOPe is broke.

"Democrats refuse COVID relief Bill". The Senate will pass an impossible bill, then blame the Dems. Happens every election cycle.

the Democrats need to create their own ad spot saying that the Republican bill didn't provide for stimulus checks for people. Whether you agree or not with stimulus checks going out, that would resonate with quite a few voters. Message "Republicans refuse COVID relief stimulus checks for the people" or something. Punch McConnell and crew right back in the face.

I am loving the rethug's desperate attempts at begging. They will sell their own mothers and lie to God if it will keep them in power. They know the time has come, and they know their time is over. I especially like the ones that are deserting trumpland like rats on a sinking ship. (No offense to rats, it is just a metaphor).
