Esper's firing raises concerns about Trump's plans for the Pentagon in final weeks

Source: Los Angeles Times

President Trump’s decision to fire Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Monday raised concerns that he may be planning far-reaching military moves in his final weeks in office — and is putting in place new leadership more inclined to go along.

Trump named Christopher Miller, director of the national counterterrorism center, to take over as acting defense secretary, bypassing the normal practice of having the Pentagon's No. 2 official take charge temporarily if the top job becomes vacant.

Trump announced the move on Twitter, saying Esper "has been terminated" and that Miller would assume control immediately.

Miller showed up at the Pentagon a little over an hour later. He issued guidance telling the Pentagon's vast workforce to continue its mission without changes, a Defense Department official said.

Or, is he really going to try nuking someplace on his way out?

He can "claim" a "state of emergency" and basically go to "military law" to NOT leave the White House until these issues are resolved, while he works to make sure they are NOT resolved.

If he truly NUKEs his way out, then he and the 1% are his only real consideration, though his survivalists with bunkers may make it through.

provoke protests, then claim a state of emergency to deal with the protests and stay in office.

But I don't see any reason why a new president couldn't handle a state of emergency. No need for him to stick around. If that happens, it should be interesting to see how the Biden team handles it. Biden is better qualified and more experienced at dealing with crises and emergencies.

Puts an executive order calling a state of emergency that only he can rescind.... keeps the chaos going and just keeps staying and staying until winter kills off another 400,000.

I know I am being morbid, but I just worry that he is capable of anything to hang onto power.

But so are the American people. We will not tolerate such obvious shenanigans - malarkey, in Biden's euphemism for BS. We will throw him out, even if he makes the means necessary into an ugly prospect.

I TRULY hope that all the states declaring that NO VOTER FRAUD HAPPENED on any scale to change the election succeeds, but I hear his tRumpies STILL believing that IT HAPPENED. AFTER all, why is the DOJ involved?

They STILL believe thousands of ballots were thrown away, dumped in rivers, that vote counters were making up new ballots.

I can't even correct the falsehoods as fast as they come out for the few people who sort of listen to me.

THERE ARE VIDEOS, you can't make this up.

Hello? Ever seen a movie? Of course you can falsify a video to say whatever you want it to. Sigh.

BUT I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT and justice prevails against even the corrupt DOJ.

use the military against us. That's why I said we would do it no matter how ugly he makes it necessary to do it. Think a minute about what that means. And hope it does not come to that. But know that if it does, we will win in the end. It's not just about who is in the White House. It's about preserving the republic.

I am in my eighties and I truly fear for the well being of the nation. We must face the fact that 70 million of our fellow citizens have been so misguided and intentionally misinformed that our unity is at this time seriously threatened. We have failed to realize that a large segment of citizens have become indoctrinated to accept, if not condone, the fascist tactics the the Republicans have adopted to to to seize power and retain it. Despite the dire warnings of numerous respected and recognized informed citizens of the threat have been not been given the attention they deserve.

If there is any additional prove, we only have to consider the resistance that the Trump administration is to the peaceful and cooperative transition of power despite their loss of the election. It is a serious issue that threatens the very security of the nation. They are determined to go to any extent to retain power ranging from the bizarre to the absolute lucidity that would be laughable if not presenting serious threat both internally and from our avowed enemies. This Republicans have convinced a large segment of the populous that they are the protectors of the nation when in reality their policies have been a unmitigated disaster. In the short period of four tremulous years that have undermined the collective protection of the free world with near treasonous cooperation with their support of our enemies and vicious dictators.

He keeps alleging massive voter fraud. DOES he KNOW something WE DON'T?

Maybe there are only 30 million crazies out there who managed to vote multiple times. Well, that's still depressing. Sorry. I tried.

I DID also hear that people who already have mental illness are more susceptible to COVID. Notice how many of Trump's besties are getting sick?

DOES that bode well for the SANE and RATIONAL Majority that is LEFT? LOL
